is perfect and unique
some fat
some oddly shaped
some thin
some short
but each perfect
on their own
because each is different
but some pervert
themselves
with plastic surgery
and other modifications
that betray our natural
bumps lumps and
other external damage
that serve as visceral receipts of living
they desire to lose
their individuality
and blend into an anonymous
amorphous mass
of chemicals and longings
they want
the same noses
the same breasts
the same buttocks
cheek implants
and the unearthly
unwrinkled foreheads
of future grandparents
painfully unaware of the
irony in modifying one’s unique
body and person
by using mass produced
nipple rings
tongue piercings
tribal tattoos
on the lower back
they don’t fool me
they all want to shout
I’M DIFFERENT
but all they affirm is
fear and loathing
of their true
idiosyncratic
selves
but despite this
their individuality
still shines through
as each one’s
self-fear and loathing
is also human,
