Not unless Mr. Lucas grants the permission for it.

I suppose it would be allright to make one inspired by the StarWars theme (not refering the AlienWare skin), as long as it's not named StarWars or anything like that?

Yes, because there are no skins here with copyrighted features without permission from their copyright holders.

For example, all the Simpsons stuff here was certainly approved by Fox and Matt Groening.

And I'm sure the Star Wars logons and whatnot were approved by Mr. Lucas.

How much trouble was it to get permission from blizzard to do WoW?

I disagree. There are TONS of skins with copyrighted images here on WC that do not have permission to use those graphics. For example: go search for Disney stuff.

No trouble at all Horizon. As a matter of fact the entire WOW theme is been promoted by Blizzard as a Theme Manager OEM and it was all granted and arranged thru legal channels.
Aside from the tons of skins that violate copyrights, a Star Wars skin would not likely be accepted without propper permission or licence. Specially after an Official Theme has been released even if its not directly available thru SD/WC.
I found myself in a little 'tangle' with Marvel Co. last year after the release of my SpiderMan Theme. And that particular theme only shared the name of the character and not any images.

Wincustomize.com has adopted a policy whereby many works such as the Simpsons can be accepted under the terms of 'fair use'/'fan art'.  The administration has often mused at the apparent absurdity of being able to obtain [for example] a Simpsons Logon at other sites but not at their own.  Why this conflicting 'stance'?

Our policy is that the works be 'value added' and not just the reposting of a proprietary wall as a wall, for example, but if incorporated within a logon with appropriate additional input then it would be OK.

If and when [in that case] Matt Groening and/or Fox or an agent thereof requested their removal it would be accommodated without argument and universally applied to any/all related works.

To date, the only 'corporations' who have ever expressed specific displeasure/refusal have been the American Football codes [NFL] and Apple.

In an 'ideal world' exactly nothing would be accepted unless 100% consentual or original....but next time you are planning pedantry, think about all those incidentals mostly forgotten/ignored....OS icons, fonts, etc.  It's never 'simple'.

One way or another a line has to be drawn in the sand.....and as many people as possible need to be reasonably happy with that line.

Those who are not, for whatever reason, can find their own beach and start making squiggles...

I wanted a Star Wars themed WB as well. I ended up finding one at least somewhat in the right vein at deviantart, if only marginally so. I just converted the visual style using SkinStudio. The style is called Kamino.
There are also a few older WB's circa 2002 for Star Wars. Simply doing a search for stars wars on WC will find them.
I don't see why someone can't create one. There are several skins available that are technically licensed material. Generally if its in good taste and there is no profit being made from the skin, I believe most companies will look the other way. Its only going to help promote their product so let it be.

While that would probably be true for most companies, Lucasfilm has been notoriously territorial about unauthorized use of copyrighted images. For example, Useless Creations had an awesome SW 3D screensaver available for download (and for free, as I recall), and LFL made it go away on pain of litigation. So, while I too would love to see a SW-related WB, I think it's quite possible it would be only a matter of time before the LFL lawyers showed up and threatened to drop the hammer. But, then again, places like Deviant Art have lots of SW wallpaper available for download, and I haven't heard any whispers about problems there. So...eh, I don't know, but I still think to create a SW WB and offer it for download would still be courting a lot of potential trouble.

Is that wishy-washy enough for ya?

I wouldn't have the slightest where to really start asking someone like that. Did they put your skins anywhere on their site?

Maybe my english is not clear enough. The WOW Theme is been promoted as part of a Theme Manager OEM. Now, if you dont know what that is, visit Stardock Store https://www.stardock.com/products/thememanageroem/ for more information.
And again, the theme was made with total approval from Blizzard.
Feel free to email them and inquire about it since this is clearly an issue to you.

Now back to the original post already in progress.

whypupwhy: Who typed this for you? It's obvious you didn't do it yourself because you can't read. Let me see: How much will the fine be and/or jail time for a copy?

Actually, after you mentioned it I was mostly just curious, as there are many emails and contacts, and departments. I'd wonder which one would be the proper to contact. And if I did need to inquire anything I'd still not really know who to contact

Blizzard might not be too bad, but with something like Marvel I'm sure there's a ton of branches or departments because of the size of the company, which probably has a few thousand different emails and extensions X_x

Didn't really have the slightest, but I would have figured it to be nice if WoW's website had a direct link to your skins here was all that meant. And I didn't see them having much of anything posted when I browsed it over that last time.

So maybe MY english was not clear enough, but then again, I could think of a reason or two and understand why you might have thought I was being more than just inquisitive and initially sarcastic.
