You might suffer from the WindowsXP scripting error. Download and install the WindowsXP-scripts from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&displaylang=en.

well, i wont get a chance to try it, i restored my computer from a ghost image, but does anyone know for sure if this is a fix for this problem, otherwise im all done with the software... that is way too scary to risk my data again..

thank you however for you help i will definetly try to find a machine to test this on!

I also had the same problems. It also affected WIndows Update, Norton's Anti-Virus, and any other program that ran scripts within a window. I installed the link and the problems were resolved. But in my case, only temporarily. Every time I would reboot my system, the problem would return and I would have to re-install that patch. I haven't had the time to check for a permanent resolution to this problem.

You may be suffering from Bootskin.

Search the forums (panel on left) for Bootskin - you will find some related issues.

Hi! I had some of the same problems with XP... and was unable to access System Restore, Media Player, Help and Support, and also Windows Update, and perhaps some other applications as well. It was a Scripting Error, and I downloaded the Scripten as linked above. Thanks by the way, as it did give me cause for some consternation as to what the problem might have been.I installed the script yesterday, and it seems to be fine for now, and have rebooted a few times, and doesn't seem to need to be repatched as someone in a prevous replay had stated.

Have the same issue as above and as long as I don't make any changes to my system - everything is ok. Make a change however and I need to re-run the patch.

This solve the problem

go to
Startmenu --> Run and then type: regsvr32 jscript.dll
hit OK and then do the same with regsvr32 vbscript.dll
