Computer Lockup with OD Plus

Is there anyway to determine what in OD is causing my computer to completely lock-up? Nothing is logged in the event logs and it has become so frustrating I've quit using OD. I have three docks on the screen, top, bottom and right. The right is an actual tab with 5 tabs. The other two are singles.

Thanks,
Chuck

Do you use any docklets on the docks? It is often that the docklets are causing problems not the dock itself. If so, try to remove one docklet at a time to find out which one causes you problems.

Well, it appears that having Fixfox as a docklet is causing the problem. Since I've removed it, I've not had a lockup. Two + hours and running. Any ideas why Firefox would cause that?

Thanks aufish for the tip.

OK. I don't know what's going on with OD. I removed the Firefox docklet last Friday and everything was cool and running just fine until yesterday; OD locked up the computer twice. This morning I've rebooted three times in less than 20 minutes. I've ripped out two other docklets without effect. This problem seems to be something other than badly written docklets. I'm abandonding OD until Stardock gets this fixed. This is my work development machine and I can't afford to constantly reboot it. Way too much lost productivity.

What's the Firefox docklet you're talking about?

What other docklets are you using eg clock, clendar, SysStats?

More systems than not are rock-solid with OD+. I have 4 docks, 1 tabbed and one exclusively for docklets and it's been fine for almost a year.

Other details of you system would help - specifically Gfx card and any other 'non-standard' apps/utils that may be running on yours that OD+ may not sit well with.

The system is a Dell Optiplex GX280. Nothing special about it. On board graphics is a Radeon X300 series, 512 MB RAM, 3.2 GHz, 160 GB HD. I was running two docks and one tab. One dock had all the links for the development stuff, VB6, SQL Server Enterprise Manager, PL/SQL Developer, VNC, Source Safe, Virtual PC, TextPad. The other had the Start Menu, IE, My Computer, FireFox, Calendar, Time. The tab has six tabs, Tray, Taskbar, Office, Utils, Internet and Main. It is completely random as far as which apps are running when it locks.

The other OD apps I run are WB, FX, Right Click, IconX, SD Central. SQL Server, Winzip, ATI, PrintKey, InoculateIT, MS Indexer and TClock are also running from the tray.

JollyFE,

Are you running IconX at the same time as ObjectDock Plus?

If so, have you tried unloading IconX, and running just ObjectDock Plus to test?

Same question for WinFX and ObjectDock Plus.

IconX has seen intermittent posts with regards to strange behavior when running ObjectDock at the same time.

WinFX and ObjectDock magnification may be placing a burden on your memory, especially if the 300X is not an AGP or PCIe card.

I would save the theme > clear the ObjectDock cache (see comment #7 here
Link), return Windows to the default theme > start ObjectDock (which will now start with the default theme) to "bench mark" if you will - the compatability with your system.

Then if all is well, build your theme one dock at a time - starting with docklet and systray free docks - to test and troubleshoot.

Note - your saved theme is still available through the "Dock Settings > Load theme button" - unless you overwrite it by saving with the same name.

OK. I don't have a great deal of time to determine what's going on here. But, here's what I've discovered so far. OD+ works fine with all of the SD apps I have running except WindowBlinds (4.51.047). These two running together cause a lockup everytime no matter what theme WB is running. I haven't gotten around to ripping any more stuff out of OD.
