New Stardock Central Creating DesktopX Bugs?

Actually, I didn't really have problems with DesktopX 3 at all, until I installed the latest version of Stardock Central... then things began acting weird...

In the old version, the DesktopX introductory popup would stay popped up until DesktopX was fully loaded... now it makes a brief appearance when I'm starting my PC, and then disappears until the PC is fully booted. That happens constantly. Sometimes DesktopX doesn't boot on startup at all, and I have to do it manually.

The other thing I've noticed, is that, being one of those people who uses DesktopX and WindowBlinds, with the toolbar always visible, only some of the icons for startup programs appear in the WindowBlinds taskbar, yet all of them appear in the DesktopX taskbar. This was never a problem before.

I'm not running new themes, either... it's Gef's "Metallica" theme, which has served me well for the last year, and worked perfectly until this latest revision...

As mentioned, none of this was a problem at all, until I installed the latest version of Stardock Central. Then everything began acting weird on me... any help or brainstorming on this would be appreciated.

Buddy,

I may be of limited help, because I dropped DX for a while due to incompablility with the core widgets that I like - I temporarily set a weather and calendar up on "My MSN" page.

Anyway, have you tried deselecting the option to run DX at start-up > clear the cache by deleting the DesktopX folder that is normally located at "C:\Documents and Settings\"user account"\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock" (where "C" is the letter drive, and "user account" is the name on the account when logged in) > reboot computer > start DX and load theme > reselect the run DX at start-up?

This may clear the issue.

Note - if you can't see "Local Settings" folder listed above, open "My Computer" and go to "Tools>Folder Options>View tab" and select "Show hidden files and folders", then click "Apply".

Note #2 - I apologize if telling you to clear the cache would have been enough, without all the instructions.

The Object Desktop splash screen has been doing the split second appearance at start-up on my machine for quite a while now, with no ill effects. I do know that it is tied to the Smart Start-up option found in SDC tools > options menu. Disabling this option will drop the splash screen, but it will also remove some functionality from ObjectDock. It also may create other issues with Stardock software.

I contacted Tech Support some time ago, and they indicated the same, and suggested re-enabling the function if things started to get weird.

Good luck.
