AVI Logon

Avi Logon

I almost tried this at one time, but then I hit a roadblock and didn't know what to do but..
I would love to see a program that can set an AVI or Mpg as either the desktop background..or XP logon screen.

Specifically I think that two things that would make good content come to mind. Some footage of the HL2 menu, or a looping video of a recording of rain hitting a window.

I suppose for the desktop background you could convert an Avi to Swf then create a webpage for it, but you'd have a tough time getting the resolution right, especially if you need to change it.

Any thoughts?

Do you realize how many resources anv AVI desktop wallpaper would take up.

That's right kids, your computer would slow to a crawl.

So yes, this is an awesome idea, if you want to do nothing on your pc except watch your animated wallpaper. For the rest us, we actually need to do something useful with our pcs.

Active desktops have been around for a long time, they were introduced with Win98 and were entertaining to a point. I would have to agree on the "AVI" thing..That would use up ALOT of resources..But your Flash idea isnt so bad, if you must have it, that would be the way to go.

As for the Log-on, I think thats a bit overdoing it, wouldnt you say? If you absolutely wanted to have something animated to log-on with..just use your Screensavers and password them..viola..animated Log-on..LoL

Even Flash takes up quite a bit of CPU. A Flash logon makes sense but a Flash desktop background I can't see as being useful.

::nods:: It may..I would actually have to try it and see..I know I was creating and using flash on a regular basis with a 450 Plll processor and having little difficulty..Now with a 3 gig chip and a gig of ram or so..would it even be noticible??
Aside from that, My CPU is 100% maxed 100% of the time and I am still able to do the things I normally do on my PC without too much trouble. I do have to turn off my programs that are using the processor if I want to render 3D graffix or something to that effect, but normal use, such as Web surfing, Email, replying to this post,,etc,,etc, does not suffer from the CPU being used 100%... Soooooo I would say, the Flash desktop would really have little impact upon normal operations..but thats just a guess..

I had a program once that let you set a screensaver as your desktop background. Can't remember the name, but if you are interested I can see if I can dig it up.

If it could be offloaded to the graphics card, and provided the card has enough grunt, then the CPU load would be minimal.
