I'd like to buy GalCiv/serial

Hello,

I simply can't buy Galactic Civilizations. It is not avalaible here, in the Czech Republic, I have searched net high and low, contacted nearly every distributor (even these distributing games by Strategy First), GalCiv was reviewed by all game magazines and has been given a good credit, but nothing. I only need that damned serial number, cause I want to participate in challenges etc. But I even can't buy it via StarDock shop, neither of my credit cards is accepted and they not accept bank transfer. I could buy it from a foreign on-line shop, but post and transfer (currency convert) fees are horrible, I'm not a rich American.
I'v noticed, it's nearly a tradition for US companies to have a sick delay in releasing their product in Europe, not mentioning central Europe, no surprie people use pirate versions, which are avalaible pretty fast.

So - I'd like to buy serial number (=legal copy) od Galactic Civilizations, if someone is willing to sell. I will test it, then I'll send money (transfer or cash) or some goods in exchange. Box and CD may be sent afterward using normal post services (no priority etc.) I will cover additional expenses.

I don't want to buy it via on-line shop enymore, no time for making new bids, to pay additional expenses etc.

For 45$? I can buy it NEW from US for 35$! Or used < 30$. I'v seen order.txt, not very user friendly. But thanks anyway.

If you can buy game from US for 35$ then what is problem?

Amazon has it for 39.99% + 4.49$ for shipping which is 10.5$ cheaper than from Stardock. But as you can see you don't need credit card to buy it from net.

I have to say that I wouldn't sell serial to stranger who would pay afterward, not real safe way to do business.

You know, doing small business with the former Communist Bloc is never a pretty thing. They can try to send US dollars in the mail, but the customs people just take the money. Getting an equivelant of a money order (some sort of bank draft) is incredibly expensive and can only be done in a few places. Even if someone over there got a main line credit card like MasterCard or Visa, US sites tend to lock out numbers from that part of the world due to fraud. Sending packages over there can be a nightmare. I have had enough trouble with Russian packages (and getting the Russians payment options) in my old business venture to last me a lifetime. Although I never did a deal with a Czech, the problems there are similar. It is a different world over there.

Well, firtstly, I'm not stupid, if I'd to buy a resil number, of course, it would be needed to come to a sort of agreement, if the seller would look trustworthy, I'd firstly send the money, then demand the code.
As to Amazon - of course, I'v tried, I'm not loony, they do not send this type of goods abroad, I guest some legal limits prevents them. Anyway, with postage etc., it would cost me twice the cost of the game.

That's typical cliché - "post-communist countries", I know an awarage American can't distiguish Czechia from Czechoslovakia, Slovakia form Slovenia, Jugoslavia, Serbia etc. We do not live in caves, do not eat rocks, dirt and rats' tails, we even have electricity, clean water, refrigerators, compulsory health care system and social safeguards, clean mass transit. I don't have to fear, that someone will shoot me after the sundown. And mail staff do not steal money etc. from packages. I'm speaking mainly about new EU members - Poland, Slvakia, Slovenia, Baltic states, Hungary and Bohemia (or Czechia or the Czech republic).
Yes, different world. But you know, USA is not the center of the World, with behaviour like that, how can wonder, some extremists hate USA and are willing to plan terrorist acts? You may end like in Fahrenheit 451.
As I may don't like USA, I have nothing about Americans and I'll buy GalCiv from one of them.

Oops. You are right, Amazon doesn't ship toys, games and video games abroad. Only to US, US protectorates and APO/FPO addresses (what are APO/FPO?). I have only ordered books from them.

But Stardock still accepts your check/money order. If you buy download it is "just" 45$, if need disc too then add 10$ for shipping ...and possibly more if your customs want their share. Don't know how much check/money order cost in Czech but I doubt it will double the price ...but I know such ancient methods of payment can cost quite lot, at least I know I had to ask my friend in US to buy original OS/2 game for me because money order expences would have been too much.

Hint to Stardock: Checks and money orders are ancient history, would it be possible to have direct bank transfers. I have understood that people in US still use checks, but for example here in Finland we haven't used such things since 80's :)

Did little searching and it seems that you have to have major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discovery, American Express) or buy using check/money order from Stardock. Unless of course you can get it through some local shop.

If this is about getting it at all, talk directly with Stardock - you might have to wait until your credit card in honoured, but I am sure they will help ya out.

If it is about getting a good price, I wish you luck. (But most of the people on this forum like playing the game: not real likely to find someone wanting to sell theirs, even if I was sure that such a transfer of ownership works, which I am not.)

That's it, I offered them direct money transfer, it should not be a problem at all, they just wait for money to come, bank will inform them (phone/sms/net/other way), they send the game. I don't understand, why Americans prefer ancient Money Order (I guest the cost here would be the same as in EU) over modern methods.
