YM probably doesn't like to be skinned. Try adding the executable as a 'per application' exclusion in wbconfig.exe

I've had yahoo messenger and added it to be skinned in the " per application " long ago. Something has changed in the past month or so that even with it added...it crashed on me the moment I tried to Right click on any part of it. I thought it was the upgrade on the windowsblind...but..since I fixed this problem, I've upgraded the blind twice and messenger is fine. Im not sure but...the latest download for messenger seems to be not compatible. So I uninstalled ( Custom uninstall-say yes to all ) then delete the remaining folders. Download the previous working version of messenger 6.0.0.1750 You can find this version at www.freecreed.com ( look in the top slide down menu's for " old messenger versions " You still need to add messenger as " per application "in windowsblind config... but this fixed the problem for me.

ah... ok.

For me it doesn't crash until I click a specific area on the messenger window (the play where you change your online status)

~Im not sure whats going on with messenger but the last install at yahoo.com site had no version numbers..I presume it was a failure.
I also run messenger with Y tunnel. Y tunnel adds back some of the features the new messenger took away. Re: being able to resize messenger. That drove me crazy not to be able to resize it. Before I removed that newest version of messenger, I tried rolling back the windowblind to the new version before any updates 4.5
That made it so messenger didn't crash but was not skinned properly. It took on the color of the skin but the Top Headers and buttons looked like old XP . So installing the 6.0.0.1750 returned it to the proper skinned look. So I still blame messenger , not the blinds.

I have version 6.0.0.1922, might be the latest...I've never done anything "per application" or anything else...as long as I have my messenger skin on "Classic" it has always worked fine, If I set the Yahoo skin to Indigo or Maverick, they it just uses those and not Windowblinds skin. It does crash occasionally, always has, maybe once wvery couple of days or so, but not from anything specific that I'm doing. I don't know if any of you have Messenger set to any other but the "Classic" in yahoo skins, I didn't even know you could change them for a long time, but if you do, that is probably your problem....just a thought

~Thats the only way you can change the skins is if you set each yahoo id on classic setting..it was always that way, even if you added the per user setting...you still had to go in preferences and set each one on Classic..I've had the per user application in the WB config since yahoo 6.0 was beta. It may not need it now ...
The version your using now is fairly new, but I think ill leave well enough alone, mines fine for now. Mai needs the fixing...

Thank you, dear ~fairyy! I had the same lousy problem with MY Yahoo Messenger, and your solution worked for me, too. That's a cool site you mentioned (www.freecreed.com) and have since found several goodies there to use. Thanks again!

Glad it worked for you Mr. Wiz. Freecreed has lots of good stuff and help sections. Mai ? Did you uninstall the old version first in your add/remove and pick " Custom uninstall " Then when it prompted you to remove various components did you say " Yes " to all ? Then go to program files and delete the yahoo messenger folder if its still remains..then go download that version ? If you need me to mail you the correct version , I can if you leave your email..also, what version of windowsblinds are you using ?

Did you make sure your emoticons were enabled ?
Check in Messenger>preferences>messages..under miscellaneous make sure enable emoticons is checked off..sometimes its not checked off after installing, i had that problem once also.

Not to be devil's advocate here but have any of you tried the free version of Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com)? This client will allow you to connect to all of the popular chat services at the same time and you don't have all of the crap that the default clients load on your machines to worry about. If you haven't tried it take a look, once I found it I never looked back.

I've checked into Trillian before and it looks good if you need more than one chat client, but I've tried a few and while yahoo messenger is a royal pain, it still has the better sound quality...

Glad it worked out for you hazylunar..not sure it will fix everyones but it works for me.

to be able to use skins with yahoo right click on the yahoo icon and select properties, click find target, when folder opens yahoo should be highlighted (ypager) right click on icon and go to compatibility, and put a check on disable visual styles and yahoo skins will work properly without crashing...hope this helps!

go to compatibility, and put a check on disable visual styles and yahoo skins will work properly without crashing.

~That may fix the crashing problem but it leaves messenger unskinned. All you get for skins is the 2 others that messenger came with...But if you dont care if messenger matches your window blind then this is fine.

I am using the latest version of Yahoo Messenger (6.0.0.1922).

No need to uninstall the program. Just go to the Per Application, add YPager.exe and set "Use specified skin" disabled. Then check "Ignore this application and do not skin it.".

Click apply changes.
