Planet naming

I have seen the question asked, but not answered, many times here. Why can't we name individual planets?

Looking through one of GalCiv's files in note pad I found the code to do so exists:

[RenameStar] Every Star System has to have a name that suits that cluster of planets. What name do you feel would be appropriate for this star system?
[NamePlanet] All has progressed smoothly with the colonization of your new planet. You may enter a name below.

So why isn't it used ???

On Gigantic, can you imagine naming every one of your 200+ planets? I beleive you can rename your planets and the process should be kept this way. The planets get named whatever default setting it's at (which happens to by the system name). Most galcivers, I think, wouldn't want a feature where you would need to name all planets you colonize, especially those who prefer abundant/larger size maps. I imagine this would get rather boring after the first dozen planets.

Plus it's easier to figure out where a planet is located by name (since it's the system name + Roman Num.)

It would still be optional to give it the default name (system name, planet number) but you may want to rename some planets (e.g. your economic capital, your first colony etc.)

I think you can rename it once you colonize the planet, but not 'when you colonize it'? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've never seen the option to rename specific planets. You can rename the star it belongs to though. Hmm...

IIRC they said it would be in the bonus pack but then they didn't put it in...

The rename planet string that you're referring to is left over to when a pop up came up every time that you colonized a planet asking if you wanted to re-name that planet.  That got annoying after awhile, so we made it just ask for the star name.

We do have renaming individual planets on the list of stuff to get done for the expansion.

Man. I hadn't thought of renaming the systems. I tend to just remember the names of the important ones...but I can see how naming them can aid in making certain production runs smoothly. Of course, naming the planets would be even more granular and would allow much more control.

I have to admit, I'm still not that good, but keeping track of all this stuff is a blast! LOL

Ditto...please don't make us name each planet upon colonization.

Just a little rename tab would be nice for some players (not me)...but don't make it mandatory in the expansion for the same reasons (annoying)

Make it like stars, a message pops up but you can still keep the default. And a rename tab for later if you want to change name.
