Windowed Mode

Does this game still run in windowed mode with the "-W" option? If so, I'm not having any luck with it. I am running in 16 bit 1024x768 on a ATI Radeon 9200.

Thanks

Doesn't anyone know the answer to my question?

Alt-Tabing isn't as smooth if you're not in windowed mode. I have a lowercase 'w' and no '-' on my GalCiv command line. Works fine with GalCiv 1.2.

I was trying to play a game & chat with a friend at the same time. Alt-Tab works very poorly while the opponents are taking their turns.

Update: I'm still having no luck, the intro movies play in a window but then it dumps back into fullscreen. I'm running at 1024*768 @ 16bit color. Also I have the latest version of GalCiv.

Then I have no idea why I'm having this problem.

I believe the correct command is "galciv.exe w" and NOT "galciv.exe -w." :)

Are you sure you're not in windowed mode? The window size is exactly 1024x768. The only difference with that resolution is the Alt-Tab performance.

I believe you have to have your resolution set higher than 1024x768 for windowed mode to work and it must be running in 16-bit color, which you are already doing. :)

Also, if you have auto-hide turned on your taskbar, that can sometimes cause problems.

Any reason why the zoom function on the mini map doesn't seem to work in windowed mode.

It works fine in full screen.

Elrikk: it works for me.  Try doing it over the sector map and see if that works (the sectormap passes on the zoom message to the minimap).  Possibly the window isn't getting the correct mouse coordinates for the minimap from the windows mousewheel message.

Thanks ya'll. It was my particular combination of Video card & monitor that wouldn't let me have fullscreen larger than 1024*768. It's working fine now, I just have to pan around on my 1600*1200 desktop when I'm playing Galciv.

Thanks Cari.

Yes, it zooms the mini map if I leave the cursror in the main map.
