Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Please specify which version of the beta you are using. You will probably be told to upgrade if you are using an older version.

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

Please update the non-expansion part of Gal Civ if you haven't, but please note that your save games will be messed up because of the additional improvements.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.  Go ahead and e-mail them to me along with a description of how to reproduce the bug.  You can still report the bug here, but I always take save games that reproduce the bug.

Please report typos in the typo thread.  String Not Found bugs are not typos.  When you see a string not found, send me your debug.err file before starting a new game.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

I've had 2 bizarre tech trade offers. In one case, the aliens offered to trade me a tech, in another they wanted to trade for one of my techs. In both cases, everything else that could be on the com panel (our techs, planets, ships...) were not present... and there was nothing on the other side of the table. I accepted both times, but could not figure out if I actually traded anything -- well, I did get the tech that was being offered.

If I try to load a game from the opening menu, I get a CTD. If I start a game, then load, no problems.

Ah, interesting. Not clicking on the text worked. But still a bug nonetheless. :p

Another bug that's been around since... forever(?), is that adjusting sliders in the Economic panel does not update the "turns to completion" on the planet list and research page properly. It requires clicking through the panels a bit before it gets adjusted properly, and sometimes, it still screws up (research saying completion next month, then next month, it gives the proper time completion of x months)

Benjamin Fan:

It seems that there's a bug in the code that scrambles the files for Windows 98/ME users.  The files don't get scrambled if you hit the shift key.

DuoDecimal:

they're scrambled so that people can't easily edit them without the editors, which would let them put in values that are otherwise unallowed.

Jackey Jackey:

There is currently no feedback for submitting games because I can't get accurate feedback from the submission process.

Weyrleader:

Um, not really sure what happened there. Do you have your endgamesave from that one?

Roara:

What do you mean by "In the planetary screen area, if you right click a social or military project, it'll make the text selected, but it won't select it in any other way"

Rabid Rob:

I think that I fixed your save game bug. When the AI bring up the trade screen, it's not supposed to show anything else, because it's a take it or leave it deal, no editing it.

As of 1.49N the starting locations in custom maps (by designating homeworld) STILL do not work. Im not sure if this is intentional or not but its a very obvious problem as it makes custom maps useless (unless im missing something here).
Are you setting the race name for the homeworld as well? It works in our campaign scenarios, and we're using the same map editor that you guys have.

OK.....I have not really tested this, but I have noticed some common themes during each game I play in AP. That is that my population growth is either negative or practically nil during all the game. I made an effort during my last playing to try to boost my population growth with my opening choices, but still it did no good. I had 17+ planets colonized with 200 or more people go down to like 5. My first question is if anyone has seen this and is it a problem, or am I doing something wrong.

The next thing that I have seen is that the save game function does not work right. If this is a known problem then please just say so, otherwise I will dig deeper and give a more detailed posting.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

I select Human and I select Homeworld. I repeat for all the other races. No race ever starts in the location I designate. Instead those homeworlds become ownerless with an unhappy icon beside them.

0Epicurius0,

Hmm...I didn't notice any problems with population when I was playing.  How is your morale and approval rating?  Are you in debt?

Also, what are you experiencing when you say that the save game function is not working? Are you using the latest version?

Nexworks, what OS do you have? Can you edit existing maps? Try hitting shift while you save the map to see if it makes any difference.

@Epicurius: You shall not rise the Tax-Rate to 100% ... :notsure:

Yes I can edit existing maps. Yes my maps have their homeworlds set the same way the existing maps have them set. I am running windows XP. I have no other problems with the game or the editors other than this homeworld/starting issue. Holding shift made no difference.

When I start a new game and chose my custom map, under Galaxy Settings where it displays the map I can see all the starting locations/homeworlds in their proper locations with the proper colors etc. However once the game starts, all the races are not in their proper locations.

I'm still seeing "string not found" for some alignments with aliens with this "release candidate".

I'll save the observations on how shocked I am that this is a release candidate for somewhere else.

Is Altarian Prophecy and the summary and all that listed on the select campaign screen? In your data campaign files, are your files named .gcmap and .gcsenario and gccampaign, or are they .gcm, .gcs and .gcc?
End of quote

Here is exactly what happens:
I launch AP and click on campaign. This takes me to the campaign screen which shows select a campaign on the left with AP underneath it, a description of AP on the right and status (new) An unexpected conincidence 1/9 missions. I click continue on the bottom right and then the problem screen comes up. Reads AP on the top then underneath Mission One: An Unexpected Coincidence which has a blank box below it, the objectives and teams boxes are also empty but the minimap shows up fine. I can also continue from here and the campaign plays fine. I just have no clue what the objectives are or teams, etc.

Running on Win98SE and just freshly downloaded GalCiv and AP from Stardock.
Files are all named .gcmap .gcscenario and .gccampaign

I'll second that... How is it that this can be a relase candidate with something like that? Is there a fix? Maybe a new english.str (for either GalCiv or AP)?

Another text bug: at the end of mission 8 you have the phrase "there was once beings" as opposed to "there were once beings".

Don't know if repeating helps, but since these bugs were not fixed in the newest version, I'll repeat them:

1. Money-Bug:
When the player goes into debt, the AI still can ask him for money-tributes. The player cant. This goes along with the Treasure-Graph not showing negetaive values but high positive values when you are in debt.

2. AI-research-Bug:
The AI still puts massive fundings into technology, even tough there's nothing left to research. This will cause them to fall back in military-buildup in that state of game. And makes the loss of tech-race irelevant. They should stop spending money into research.

Too many random events.

I was playing a tiny game, and every other turn I was averaging a random event!

Second, the same events were repeated too often! I just had *4* "All unsettled planets around Planet X have gone up 13 PQ". And it was the same PLANET all 4 times. That totally destroyed any semblence of balance. Prior, the Dregnin homeworld and the Torian homeworld had both experienced 3 random PQ ugrades.

There were also 3 invasions of space sharks. The first started on turn 2. That one decided to run straight for my homeworld, and eat everything there and produced there. Luckily, I didn't need to yellow star rush on a tiny map. The third one did the same thing, and stayed for a very long time due to it eating every mini freighter that popped out. Took me a very long time to lure it away to die trying to eat alien star bases.

Is this a strategy game, or roulette?

CariElf-

My morale was good and my tax rate was practially nil. I was testing the population to see what factors will really make it expand like the AI empires. I have currently found no way to match the population of the AI empires. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In regards to the save game: The game does not ask me if I want to overwrite a save game with the same name. Plus the Delete button does not work correctly.

Keeping the morale of a planet at 100% lets you double your pop-growth. Make buildings which increase moral a top priority.

v1.49N[rc].002 - Autosurvey is still ignoring some anomolies (or using a very strange algorithm to decide where to go next).

Seems like it goes to which every anomaly was discovered first. If you happen across one near to where the survey ship is, it still goes for one across the galaxy at times.

You know, in 3 games I've started since the "release candidate" came out I haven't seen a single minor.

And while I'm sure this doesn't qualify as a bug, the lack of graphics on things like the summary screen for the new races doesn't exactly scream "done".

In v1.49(rc).002 I just finished my first game with this update. I got the message that I could not submit the game because scenarios and custom maps are not supported at this time. This was a normal game, not a scenario or custom map. I thought this was fixed in the last update. :sniff!:

Still unable to submit Alliance victories, nothing like needing to go back and spend an additional 3 hours on a game to win it militarily, oh wheee :notsure:

Also had Korx using Terran Deathknight graphics unless I went temporarily blind.
