Some things just cant be done, thats one of them... you can get rid of the Icon together with the text..but not one or the other.. I dont even know if you can change the text color..I dont think you can do much with the Icon text at all..
I could be mistaken..but I am 90% sure your gonna just have to live with it..

Zero.

IconX will allow you to change icon text color on your desktop icons. In fact you can change many attributes using it. However, I'm not aware of a way to turn off icon text.

To change the icon size and text size or font in Windows XP:

"Display Properties>Appearance tab>"Advanced" button>select "Icon" from the "Item" drop-down list, click "OK", then "Apply".

Note - if WBlinds is installed, you may get a WB dialog box after clicking the "Advanced" button referred to above. If you do, click the "Other advanced options" button in this dialog to get to the "Advanced" dialog listed above.

Windows currently requires at least one character to be listed with the icon on the desktop. There may be a way to change this in the registry, but that is another story altogether.

I hope this helps.

I just found this "tweak" that will give the "desired effect apparently..

Just click on rename and type alt + 0160 (on the numeric keypad) it will make a invisible character

Note: This will only work if you have the file extensions hidden.

You can use this only for one icon of each type (shortcut, folder, exe, txt, jpg or whatever you have on your desktop)
For the second icon type: alt+0160 alt+0160
For the third type: alt+0160 alt+0160 alt+0160

Hope this works for ya..
