Your first time....

Hey all,

I've really enjoyed hearing stories about people's games at masochistic, especially Sirian's, on his 'Restaurant of Eternity' website. I was wondering if anyone would like to swap stories of their first games at Masochistic, or whatever level is your 'Oh ****!' level. If you don't have stories, but find them enjoyable, I reccomend Sirian's site, and would offer up my first successful game at masochistic, for fun reading....

My first game on Maso:
Played for a while. Got left way behind, technologically. Got into debt. Threw everything into completing a trade good. Thought I could sell it to my enemies and get back into the game. Was horrified to find they'd only offer me about ten credits for it. Found that the Torians were culturally dominating my planets. Gave up and went back to crippling.

How about people's memories of their first GalCiv game of all?
I remember I started off by trying to build a survey ship, which took a long time at 33% military and 50% spend rate. I thought these ships sounded important. I didn't realise I already had one - I assumed the USS Hero was a scout. Somehow, despite all this, I still won, thanks to easy difficulty level and some good diplomacy.

My first one only lasted like 20 turns and the Drenging came and used me as rug for their feet. >:(

Exactly the same thing :(

As for a first maso, it was yesterday, and I have a very vivid and painful memory of it. I specially remember the awful altarian sitcoms that were the only thing available on our national network -- and that was before their cultural victory >:(

At first I started off in a shuttle, then I eventually trade enough commoditities to buy myself a starbridge class c mod, with the help of sigma shipyards on Earth, core of the Federal Council. The vellos found out I was a pirate and a telepath. But the vellos soon found me out and the Feds chased me all the way to Aurora. Then the Aurorans, naturally being at war with the Feds wiped them out. I met a woman named Mu'Randa in the Spaceport bar and she had me run some errands. Next thing I know I've got pirates hot on my tail, firing lasers, becasue I've got a Queen and Mu'Randa as my passengers. The Queen directed me to her Dominion which was called the Polaris Empire. The Polaris were also at war with the Federation. But they made no agressive moves. The Mu'Randa began saying I was the Messiah of her people or Something becase supposedly the Polaris societ was in turmiol. They had me contact some Rebels which we later aided in their fight against the feds. We found out that the federal government was really under control of a secret society of racists that wanted to extingiush all life but the feds. We couldn't let this happen....... Huh is Right!
That reminds me of the time I took my friend Charengo to the Planet Tau Ceti 2 to go hunting for some Cunjo. Vicious little things. Anyway, on the last night of cunjo hunting, our camp was attack by a whole pack of them! The first few were blasted by charego and Hs Auroran gaurds but they just kept commin. Eventually they got past the defenses and tore the gaurds to pieces. Charengo and I took off running to my StarBridge. We were in such a hurry that we forgot all the cunjo pelts! which meanswe left and I fired some stellar grenades at the camp from my ship, leaving the pelts would be as if we were ever there! What a laugh! good times, good times.

Being a GC/2 player from way back, I started off at "normal" difficulty. And got my butt kicked. The Drengins really took advantage of my poor diplomacy skills and demanded so much tribute that I went into debt and couldn't build a fleet... meanwhile, all my systems started hating me because I couldn't draw up a budget... and then we all know what happened after that... :)
