Terror Stars?

Admittedly I have not played a whole lot of games, somewhere greater than 20 less than 50. I have never seen what terror stars are. Can someone give a quick explanation? They are cool?

Think of the Death Star from Star Wars. Assuming no bugs, it moves one space a turn.

Use it to destroy entire systems to cripple another civilization's economy if you don't have the ground forces to liberate it. Some will build a few Terror Stars and declare war once they are next to their targets.

Another possibility is to make them moving cultural centers to try and get planets to defect. Realize again that they only move 1 space a turn.

Oh. The original explosion was extremely anti-climactic. It's better now. Still. Wish it had its own cut scene.

that 1 move per turn a killer in the larger galaxies

If you aren't exploiting the terror star fleet bug ... :)

If the terror star has a speed module upgrade, will it move faster?

Also, if a starbase has a module to upgrade the defence of ships in its sector, it the SB defence also upgraded?

Nothing in the game can ever give a terror star more than 1 move (except for that bug). I'm not sure about defense. I don't think so.

yeah that bug was sort of odd place a ship on it and then it moves at the speed of that ship. I found out about that bug myself all on my own without any help err fix it although it is fun to have 4 terror stars moving at 15/1 heh...i thought it was some weird upgrade that i didnt know about then i figgured it out its a bug

Does it still applies? I remember having this bug several times in the past, but it was a long time ago. Recently I tried to reproduce it, but couldn't. was I just picking the wrong TS+ship combination or was it fixed in one of the updates?

The bug is still here in 1.13. But I have sometimes troubles to activate it. I used it to increase the speed of my 6 terror palaces :). And strange things appears when you put all the TS on the same square, with some scouts, merge them in one fleet. A save and reload could help to activate the bug too !!

As I have said, I have no 100% guaranted receipe. I just know that in each game when I have tried to activate the bug, I have succeeded with much or less ease.

I had two kinds of TS bugs that I remember: one was the fleet thing. For me it used to happen with rangers and avatars. With Overlords I think I had a different thing: even when fleeted, If teh ship was the selected within the fleet, it would move around (I remember because overlord had 15 moves!), destroy enemies ships. When moves were over, If I clicked in the TS and made it move, the ship would be "teleported" back to the TS, and the TS would still have 15 moves left! Go figure.
But I could not reproduce it, that's why in my current game I have a huge fleet of constructors trying to get to the heart of the ennemies territory. But they are suh easy targets!
I'll make a save tonight, try making the TS and see what happens.

Since you are planing some testing with TS, I think that there is something to look into: I was able to increase the speed of a scout with TS. The TS fleet bug was activated with some scouts (TS and scout with the same number of move). And when I select the scout, flet with the TS, reselect the scout, I see an increase of the scout move. I think it was after that the TS has move but I am not sure.

I'll try it... but only tonight (:( . Somuch work to do, so little time to play :sniff!:

I mean, tonight in my time zone... but I think we are in the same one. i'll keep you posted :)

We are in the same time zone. And if I remember correctly, in the same country :).

a poll:

should Terror Stars move at the same speed as transports?

btw - in the os/2 version of the game, they did.

NO. That just puts the power back into the culture bombers hands. I think it should be possible to double their speed to 2, but no more than that.

Is there a way to mod a tech effect, or create a new one, or a new SBmodule that allow to increase its speed? Like a transwarp tunnel tech (supposedly very expensive) or something along those lines?
(I don't have experience with moding, so I don't know).

If not, I'd say, leave it the way it is. You can always take it in separate parts to the place you want, and then assemble the 15 constructor parts just where you want...

Terror Stars are not "mod-able." They are hard-wired into GalCiv's programming. Nothing you can do will change their characteristics. You can add whatever starbase modules that you want, but as Cari told me, "Terror stars are more than just starbases that can move."

ok.
Anyway I hardly build any of them, except when fascing extermination myself (like now). Then there is a "last savage thrust into the heart of enemy territory", commanded by some descendent of Cptn Doolitle (of the tokyo bombing). Then either there is peace, or we're dead, because no more ships to protect homeplanets...

Did she say what "more" was that exactly (except for the blowing up stars part?)

There is an entire programming set for them. They are a special part of the program rather than just a starbase module.

Why is it considered a bug? I thought the fleet was simply towing the terror star ...

That reminds me of Princess Leia in Star Wars (referring to the Millennium Falcon): "Would it help if we got out and pushed?"
