Population

I have to ask, how can there be so many people on a planet? i mean earth right now, could probably not support more people than it already has which is 6 bil..... so how can one planet have 100 billion people! that's a ton! so my question for all of you is, will there be pop. limits based on how big the planet is or how many useable tiles there are? because that is one thing I did not understand about galactic civ 1. or could someone try to clear me up on how in the world 100 bil. people live on the same planet?

To try to answer your last question: Right now 90% of the approximately 6 billion people only live on 10% of the earth's land surface. When the ocean area is factored in, along with Antartica, the Earth can likely hold far more.

We already produce more food on far less land than we did 100 years ago, so it would not be outside of the realm of possibility that humans will continue to increase production (of anything, not just food) as population increases even as land area decreases. Certainly, by the time there are 100 billion people crawling over the globe, technological improvements will had to have increased the carrying capacity of the planet otherwise there could not be 100 billion people on the planet.

Taller buildings, orbital, ocean, Antartic cities and lunar cities could extend the living space considerably. On top of that, people will become used to living closer together... look at many large cities in the world. The country of Monaco has about 43,000 people per square mile... that is dense!

Otherwise, it's just a game.

guitarRaptor22, there is a pop. limit in galactic civilizations, you know, hen the pop. reaches 1000000 milion troops/civilians in a planet level 40 there is no more people borning....

The current population growth in the beta is pretty much rabbit levels!

I'm sure this will all be tweaked as planned in later betas though,
