Somebody help!!

I've got pretty much the whole day invested in a Gigantic game, and now it keeps crashing when I load up. If I go to the previous autosave it will work for 5 more turns and then crash again and corrupt the autosave, and it's an endless cycle...

A whole lot of bugs in this game. I just saw a Terror star mve a whole bunch of spaces! It was in a fleet with some other ships. It was moving one at a time until I went to an autosave and then it started really moving.

I've also have invisible ships. Starbases as close as I can put them (was this changed again)?

Anyway, I'd like to finish the game, but it keeps crashing on me.

Did you get the Draginol warning earlier in the game? Have the Draginol come? That is usually what causes this crash. If they haven't come, evacuate the planet they are coming to and don't resettle it, ever. If they have come, find an earlier save game because it will keep crashing. Hope there's good news somewhere in there.

The problem with that strategy is that one of the other civs usually resettles it. Thats what happened in a game that I had put 5 hours into. The planet culture flipped back to me, the Draginol came, and the game was totally ruined.

You can still play through it until the Draginol come if you just keep going back to PreviousAutoSave. You lose two turns every time, which I guess would be a real pain on a Gigantic galaxy, but you could still get through the game. The Draginol themselves are no big deal, just put a few good ships around the planet before they show up and evacuate the entire population. Just leave them sitting in Combat Transports surrounding the planet, ready to land as soon as the Draginol show up.

No, you misunderstand me PJ. I can deal with the Draginol. Its the fact that the game crashes and the file is corrupted that I have a problem with.

Best thing to do is to send it to CariELf... also install Smart Exception from the freebie section in Stardock Central. It generates a file that can help her find out why it crashed.

She's very helpful

I'll try the smart exception thing when I get home. Is CariElf's email address listed somewhere?

BTW, I don't remember anything about the Draginol, but I have a bad habit of getting carried away with the "Turn" button and not reading a lot of the messages. :-)

Upon a reload, I see an empty Tech Tree (I think I researched everything) then the screen goes red and then there is a crash to the desktop.

I had the EXACT same problem Paguma, and it was the Draginol who were responsible. I lost a game I had put about 5 hours into too.

That's odd--I just finished a LONG game that had the Draginol event, and had no problems with the event. I did have some CTDs, but I attribute that more the to having left my POS HP machine running for two days. I hope Cari can sort out your problem Paguma.

Paguma,

CariElf's email is in the bug report thread,

I hope in can get it resolved nothing is more annoying and wasting a day on a game that you can never finish.

I ran it with SmartException and pressed the "submit exception" or whatever that top button was. There is no feedback to let me know it was sent. Is that all I have to do, or do I have to mail the .cra file?

Someone in my empire thread suggesting cancelling my auto pilots and running a couple of turns. I was sceptical, but one of those autopilot moves must have been triggering whatever event was crashing me, because when I did that it actually stopped the crash.

Of course, I unfortunately found out I was not in as good of a position as I thought I was in the game. :-)
