WinCustomize is a website. It would be where you would get the content.
Object Desktop is software.
So you woudl get both.
and they were offering the two at different prices
You get all the programs to apply skins to your GUI (Windows shell, Taskbar, Start Menu, Icons) and you get design/development programs which allow you to create skins, icons, and objects/widgets.
You also get "Theme Manager" which allows you to: (a) apply themes (suites), (b) create, assemble, and save themes (suites), and (c) acts as a program manager for the different customization applications.
There are other included programs which are very useful and fun as well.
The Object Desktop suite of programs are downloaded through a program named "Stardock Central" to which you receive a 1 year subscription and includes all updates offered for the various programs throughout that year. You then have the option at the end of a year to either re-subscribe for a year, or just keep what you have downloaded and installed over the course of the year.
You can alternatively order the Object Desktop CD, and install the programs, then use "Stardock Central" to obtain all the updates throughout the year.
The WinCustomize Subscription is a 2 year subscription to this site, which allows you unlimited downloads of free content as well as access levels above the casual user. It includes the WinCustomize Browser which offers normal web browser functions as well as some convenient links to news groups, skin selections, and chat channels - a great deal for $20.
I hope this helps.
| What other software would you recommend that is out there that has the same Quality and detail that Deskobject has? |
None that I know of. I have never regretted subscribing to Wincustomize or OjectDesktop. They are both great values and I will definitely renew when the time comes.
as Island Dog said OjectDesktop is the best..it fantastic..
For some the Wincustomize subscription is worth it as well. Mainly because it helps maintain the site, but it also gives you greater freedom in using the site.
But as stated they are two different things, though best when you have both of them.
Cyntek: let me clear up any confusion for you......
1: Stardock is a software company, they have a website...."Stardock.Com"
2. Stardock also own WinCustomize.com, a website for uploading and downloading skins for the software that Stardock makes.
3: Object desktop is a whole suite of programs for customizing your desktop. Programs like WindowBlinds, IconPackager, Desktop X etc, are all part of that suite, plus many more. It also includes SkinStudio, a program to help you make WindowBlinds skins, which you can then upload to this site for others to download.
4: You can buy many of the programs seperately, but Object Desktop represents much better value. There also free versions to download and try before you buy.
5: If you want to create your own skins and themes, you will need a graphics program, like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro etc. You create the graphics for your skin or theme, and then apply them to the program.
I hope this helps. If you require any more information, don't hesitate to contact me at boxxi@wincustomize.com
