NHL Cancels 2004-05 Season

Disgrace to sport

The formal announcement of the cancellation by Gary Bettman today kills any hopes of saving the season. Needles to say, that it is an enormous blow to NHL and its popularity; especially in the US, where other sports are dominating the field.

NHL has been already struggling to bring in ratings, revenues and most importantly fans. I myself consider hockey as the second best sport out there and I am a big fan. But, I’m looking elsewhere, because I feel insulted and betrayed by both, the union as well as the NHL. The whole dispute is shameful and totally disregards the feelings of millions.

Will I come back? Sure, but with no the same passion as before. Hey, what about destroying the NHL altogether? Who cares? I’m pissed so much, that right now I would accept it in a heartbeat. I’m listening to Bettman’s B.S. and I’m eager to throw up whenever he mentions fairness and fans in the same sentence.

He goes on blabbing like a corrupt politician saying and repeating over and over that they'll come back "better than ever"
Dammit!, this is not the elections. Fire him already! Lack of negotiation skills, incompetence, etc...

,,,Snidely. 'Dragon counts to 10'. The White Sox are the only pro team in Chicago. I have heard that there is some minor league affilited team that practices on the north side in an old broken down ball park. I think they're called The Pups ...no that's not right. The Chubs ...no that's a fish. Pretty sure they are named after a fur bearing mammal juvenile that is renowned for it's succling ability and has the greatest capability to smell among all mammals. I'll think of it.

Personally I don't like hockey anyway so am not missing it. However for those who enjoy it, this season is a big blow to the NHL. To me it seemed to increasing in popularity year by year and then they go and do this? Why do people have to be so freaking greedy over money. Sure its nice to have and important to have, but can't they think of the fans? What is the difference between making $1,000,000 and $5,000,000 a year? Heck I'd take a million any day! Hell I'd take 10% of a million!!!

How do you figure the players want too much? They only want what someone is willing to pay them. I think all of us want that.

Well, call it what you will but they players/players union wants an agreement with the coaches/NHL that includes no salary cap. Even the NFL has a salary cap, and for Hockey players in the US to think that they have the clout to demand something like that is simply assinine. They just don't have the fan base to demand something like that.
