I'm going Cable!!! :o)

This will be fun!

After five years of..... DIAL-UP I am finally making the switch over to cable. I got free installation and the 3 MB per second speed for only $20 US a month. Now that's a deal I couldnt miss.

Essencay in a fit of jealousy, throws an old HDD he's got laying around, smacks Meowy off the back of the head with it and spouts "You lucky SOB!"

envious indeed ....best I can hope for is...option A: satellite 500KB, $60 a month plus another $400 or $600...I can't remember...for equipment and installation or option B: DSL 512KB $73 a month, free equipment with 2-year contract.

You are about to enter a new dimension! And you're gonna love it! You're not only gonna love the "always on" feature and the speed, but you will never agian get kicked off for being "idle" or loss of connection. And the best part is, you will never again shout "dont use the phone! I'm on the internet!!!"

Steve, price out about 70 miles of cable. You can plug in here for free.

Meowy, your life is about to change.

When I was living in Somersworth, NH....about 800ft from the road, the 1st wife and I were gonna get cable. After, I think, the first couple of hundred feet, it was going to cost us around a $1.50 a foot....needless to say we rented a lot of videos the two years we lived there.

Now you get to deal with all the good stuff with cable, pop-ups and ALERTS, ALERTS. ALERTS Go DSL

Congrats Meowy!
You're gonna wonder how you ever lived without it!

dial-up and dsl = bad. cable = good

...but
If you ever use someone else's computer that has dial up after having tasted the good life, you will absolutely want to cut both of your hands off instead of having to wait.

DHCP= dynamic host configuration protocol, PPPOE=point to point protocol over ethernet. Just technical jargon about how a PC connects to a server. Your confusion can be cleared up by knowing your provider and if you connect to the internet by way of a cable coming into your house, or thru your telephone line,or wireless connection. Can you tell us more?
