Unfair Practice

The three links below are links to 3 logons that jafo sent me email saying that they did not meet specifications and I believe that with 3 in a row I am due an explanation seeing they are not copyright, they are not graphic, they are not a rip. So i would like to find out whats going on. also below you will see a letter of authorizaton from the author, authorizing me to port his stuff. So where is the problem? Just curious.

Hi...I have downloaded your blinds and find your work to be extremely well done. Been using your blinds since you put them up at Theme XP. I am a big fan of your work. But unfortunately I am a window blind user and had to port down for myself for personal use. but I believe your blinds would make an excellent addition to our community at Stardock-Wincustomize as well as your logons. I also am using them and find them to be very well done. Therefore, my question to you is...would you give me authorization to port your library to Wincustoms? Of course all credit would go to you, with a direct link going to your library and your website. Below I will put a link to Wincustomize and my library to WinCustomize. I would appreciate if you would let me know your decision regardless of what it will be. I thank you in advance for your consideration.

Dont meet specification is not an explanation. These are legal, and so is my other work that keeps getting the ratings cut. I am due an explanation and would like one, or is there something to hide?

You can port anything you have permission to...as you DO have with these...however please try to at least respect their efforts by providing decent previews that are NOT JUST THE WALL image.

A logon is a series of images, not ONLY a wall image insertion...it is a SKIN and various components thereof need to be displayed in the preview to actually show the Logon as a LOGON.

This is not 'unfair practice' the same applies to anyone who uploads an incorrect preview.

I lost track of the names/addresses I was deleting.

Just make representational preview images that do the authors justice.

And stop this political grandstanding accusing all and sundry of "something to hide"

Developer butch123 ... no, I'd rather you took heed of people's concerns over the 'simplicity' of your porting methods...and took time to learn more of the mechanics.

Like how to generate a representational and accurate Preview image.  It seems your Previews of ported MSstyles don't even show the actual windowblind itself....just the start panel etc.

Skinning is not about numbers of uploads....nor 'should' it be about numbers of downloads.  It SHOULD be about quality and pride in one's endeavours.

Porting should be seen as a generous gift on the part of the original artist to GIVE YOU the right and RESPONSIBILITY to do the best you possibly can to 'enhance' his craft.

A "Wham, bam, thankyou, ma'am" approach to an artist's work on the part of the porter does BOTH people a disservice.

I dunno....maybe it's because I have been porting within LiteSTEP for over 7 years it's as plain as day to me what 'should' happen.....and we tend to forget there are new 'kids on the block' who need to be nudged in the right direction.

One way or another, though, things NEED to improve...

Jafo: Okay i will speak Engish but one more time you try to ridicule me or anybody tries to ridicule me because of a spelling error, then I will post in my own language. Now, the new kid on the block was speaking with the author last night as a matter of fact. We had about a half an hour talk and he was telling me that he came over and took a look and was very pleased. As a matter of fact he is making something new for me so I could upload it. So maybe the new kid on the block aint doing so bad. Maybe a little more respect all the way around....

Developer butch123 ...perhaps a quick trip to the 'Any port in a storm' thread and to read Adam's comment about porting to WB....[taking into account he wrote the converter] would be in order.

As for Logons, on most occasions IF they are only a wall and no other image modification they generally are rejected.

If the preview shows no indication of anything other than the wall being altered...they will be rejected.

It matters not whether the skin author is happy with them or not, final decision is that of the Moderators.

Admin Jafo While I do agree that the final decision is to be made by the Moderators number one you should remember thats its 2 months maybe that I am porting stuff (maybe). My name is not Tiggz or Mike...its Butch. Number two, my loyalty is to the author..he made it...and he decides period if modifications and what modifications will be made to his material. So I believe it is not to your discretion to judge anybody's work, it should be to the public to judge peoples work. if they like it they download it, if they dont like it, they dont download it. I do believe everybody here knows how to voice their opinion.

...but the powers that be on this site could not accept his work either. It's a private site and they could get rid of every skin except for GT3 and 3FX if they wanted to. Butch123, I get the feeling that you will always find something wrong with this site.

alright, kids, it's time to back up a step and regroup. stop the bickering in here before it gets ugly. some of the comments made in here are uncalled for everybody, back away from your computers and get a large, cold glass of pepsi. you may want to read the paper or watch the news and see what is really important in this world before more comments that may be regretted later are made.

Logons, Bootskins and Wallpapers are moderated for content and 'quality'.

If and when anyone's submissions are rejected by the moderators it is the decision, rules, and condition of upload to/of Wincustomize.com.

If your artist is 'happy' with an inferior result Wincustomize.com is not obliged to do/be the same.

Moderators by definition do have the right/discretion to judge 'anybody's work', and will do so.
