gut the box, put in an A-Open motherboard with all the goodies on it, replace all the other stuff, install the game. ;)

I'd imagine if you wanted to get VirtualPC and put it on your Mac, you might be able to. But why you'd want to try it on there, instead of just having a PC, is beyond my comprehension LOL

Psychocircus,

In a previous position I worked with publishing industry clients and had Mac. To play on the corporate environment I had Virtual PC. Since I travelled with this machine, I also installed games. Games like Gal Civ that didn't require graphics accelerators ran pretty well (Starcraft, Warcraft II, Civ 2, MOO 2, Sim City) so you'd probably be okay... In fact, in general, my Windows 98 Virtual PC was more stable than my PC running it at home. I don't know that the price of a Windows environment is worth it as a cheap PC isn't much more as GalCiv with run on a lower end PC (at least for smaller map sizes).

Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to test this for you.

Hope this helps,

Cypher

Yup... Why bother with a different computer entirely when you can just bend windows to your will! That's the problem, too many people let windows tell them what to do, not the other way as it should be ;)

GGGrrrrrr. :sniff!: Stop the Mac bashing. I have both Mac and PC, and much prefer using my mac. Most DECENT programs can be used on Mac aswell as PC (GalCiv being one of the few exceptions.)

OS X rules, and, XP, which came out AFTER OS X is shockingly similar to OS X.

Oh, and Mac's have the Escape Velocity (EV) series by AmbrosiaSW, the best Mac shareware comapany out their (EVNova has now been ported to the PC :CONGRAT: ). Guess which my favorite PC comapany is.

I don't think OSX has virtual PC built in. And I don't really see the need.

GalCiv is a great game, and well worthy of porting to the mac. I would really like to see it on the mac as well as the PC. I play mac games much longer than PC games.

Now, should I go play EVN of GalCiv. OOO, the choices. :notsure:

Can I have one more bash at a mac please!!!! - you know as to the why the mac games are longer....

Ok enough from me, these type of thread easily go from fun to exploding in your face :sniff!: .
Plus if you find a mac suits you that fine with me, all I ask is don't feed me mac mantra I don't buy it.

Yes windows xp came out afterwards, and of course they rushed out and looked as mac OSX and using superstrength coffee managed months of endless nights to whip up a look alike... called XP, yes sir of course sir....

Dont worry Galayon, I'm just playing with you. Mac vs PC disputes don't interest me.

But the Mac-PC battles are the last great religious conflicts that haven't been stamped as "Politically Incorrect!"

Ah, the chicken and egg argument. Personally, I thought OS X was borrowing decent Windows features from the 95/98/ME family. As 95/98/ME borrowed features from earlier Mac OSs. By the way, hats off to Xerox, who invented the mouse in the first place.

Mac's place in the world of business is secure, as many graphic artists INSIST that Photoshop for the Mac, despite the lack of a two-button mouse, is far superior to (the identical) Photoshop for the PC. The Mac's dispensability in the home is more of a question. Personally, I find the convenience of being able to purchase and run 98% of the commercially-available software on the planet to be a nice incentive for the PC. But that's me.

Y'all will have to pardon my extended rant here... When shopping for a laptop, I deliberately bought one capable of 1024x768 resolution just to be sure that GalCiv would run, so I understand your frustration. Good luck and good gaming.

P.S. Many of my friends run Macs. I love Mac people. Really!

Amen, brother. I've been in athiest-fundamentalist arguments, libertarian-conservative flame wars, and mac-pc battles, and the only one that didn't end up with me skewered on a roast was the mac-pc one.

Of course, I have a boss who believes that a Mac is the only way to edit videos. And a mate who's bought into that tripe. But that mate hasn't seen the PC apps that can do the same thing that the Mac can...

Okay, okay. I'll shut up now.

I love Macintosh. As a developer, I haven't seen a disadvantage to developing in either environment... but I write server-side apps which don't interact with my computer much. Always liked Apple Script though and thought the Mac OS environment was simpler, cleaner, and more transparent.

The main problem with Macintosh is expense (though I know this is a strange arguement from someone who owns a Silicon Graphics box) and lack of games. You have to play Mac games for longer since they don't port many...

Cheers,

Cypher
