trade in endgame

have you experienced this: Your main trade partner surrenders to you and all of a sudden you are stuck in an economic crisis? Happenened to me ... and this made me wonder why you can't trade with your own starsytems ... i mean, why should all trade with that planet stop, once you've conquered it? if this was changed, it could add a new - protectionist - economic strategy ... what do you think?

I have noticed economic crisis in the endgame as the entire galaxy comes under my control, but usually the game is over quickly enough that it doesn't matter. I usually keep a couple of minors around to trade with so its not too bad. A new economic strategy may be intresting.

I suppose trade is supposed to be specifically about exchanging culturally unique products. Once they've joined your culture, they will no longer produce such products. In this case, trading with yourself would make no sense. I think the way it works at the moment is pretty interesting and shouldn't be changed (except maybe by capping the starbase trade bonuses). For example, do you trade with your most powerful enemy? If you do, you will be making him even more powerful, but you will also be improving relations with him and reducing the risk of getting attacked.

Solution #1: Keep freighters in position near each race, so you can replace your trade routes right away.

Solution #2: Trade with the Carinoids, selling them ships to keep them from being overrun. This only works if you already have a big lead. (This doesn't work with the Alexians, because they culture flip too easily; the Carinoids have a very high cultural resistance rating.) You can also do this with the I-League or Fundamentalists if they are in your game.

..sure it is better to trade with other civs; i also think it ought to be more profitable than trading with your own planets ... but it could be included as an option, just in case nobody likes you (because you are "very" evil ;) ) ... off course this "inner trade" should not be too powerful ... anyway i like the way it works, too.

I can't believe somebody from Evil Empire hasn't recruited you yet, Aeddy!

Tsk, Tsk...I guess they are too busy being evil. You should look into joining the Evil Empire. Your gameplay would be a perfect fit with them! :D

Hey Aeddy! Domestic trade counts toward your GDP as internal revenues, it's assumed to take place and should therefore be part of your tax income. International trade is a different beast altogether, it means that your civilization gains wealth through specialization and the international division of labor, bla... bla.. bla... ;p

Point is, I think that trade between your own planets is already factored into tax income. For example the Economic Exchange which increases economic activity, i.e. trade.

... ahh see the point: but on the other hand, there is no possibility of blocking domestic trade then!? e.g. by besieging a planet (system)

... although my two (newly submitted) good games spoil the party, don't they? Well i believe the next few games will show if the dark side is stronger ...? :)

If you're unsure of your morality you can always join the largest empire in the metaverse ;)

I don't think there is a way to block domestic trade, no.
