Metaverse scoring question

Greetings all,

Forgive me if the answer to my question has already been posted (in which case I am a big fat fool!) :)

I do not understand how the overall metaverse score is calculated from the individual game scores.

For example, I am user TheFrolickingMan (http://www.galciv.com/info.asp?accountID=694441)
I have played 13 games, most on Painful or Crippling. Of those 13, eleven of them are scored above 12k, and the average is around 13k or 14k. My composite score is 49562.

Contrast this record with fellow gamer Dartie (http://www.galciv.com/info.asp?accountID=677254). He has played 7 games and has a composite score of 50053. His scores average between 11k-12k and the highest difficulty level played is normal.

I was hoping someone could explain to me how the individual game scores combine to produce the average score which is used to determine rank. Any insights are v-appreciated! :D

First of all, FrolickingMan you've got very impresive score, wow, and consistancy of submitting games. I must say you should join an empire to be ackwoleged by other players.

As for scores, I don't see why your score is about the same as Dartie. Your's should be higher. I don't know much about how they carculate metaverse score, but seems difficulty is not helping the score a lot in 1.05. I see some other players playing 1.09, they get way better scores with harder difficulty. I guess I'll have to wait until I get x-pack.

As for joining an empire, why don't you start with Jedi Republic. We have a very nice homepage and everybody's worm. I just joined few days ago. If you have any questions about GC or metaverse, some of our people can answer it. Here is our link.

Give me a sec, FrolickingMan. I'll work out the numbers for you.

The key reason behind this disparity in scores is the monthly block effect.

For you, all your games are still in one 30-day monthly block. So the basic formula of total number of poitns divided by sqrt total number of games is applied to give you a score of 49,562. You have 13 games in your denominator.

For Dartie, his games have stretched over a period of time so he has three 30-day monthly blocks. The basic formula is applied to each of his blocks separately:

Current 30-day monthly block
8/16/2003 13,420
9/7/2003 10,860
9/9/2003 15,220
Total : 39,500
Divided by sqrt of 3 (3 games) = 22,805

Current block's scores are not aged so this block's contribution to his overall score is 22,805.

1-month old block
7/20/2003 14,640
7/26/2003 11,970
Total : 26,610
Divided by sqrt 2 (2 games) = 18,816
Multiply by 95% = 17,875

Ageing is 5% for every month for the Metaverse listing scores and 10% for player profile scores.

2 month old block
7/5/2003 9,640
7/5/2003 5,089
Total : 14,729
Divided by sqrt 2 (2 games) = 10,415
Multiply by 90% = 9,373

Dartie's Overall score = 22,805 + 17,875 + 9,373 = 50,053.

You will get a jump in your score when you grow your next monthly block after you submit a game on or after 9/16/2003.

TheFrolickingMan, I see you have expressed and interest in joining the dark forces. What better place than with us... the Evil Empire! Give our thread a view and give us your consideration. Together, the metaverse will be ours!

There's malicious empires, pirate empires, and self-satisfaction empires, to name a few... I'm sure you'll find the right flavour of evil for you somewhere here. :)

Then there are also those empires that don't care.. evil or not.. :)

Hey, we need more evil-bent people over here in the Jedi Republic. Got to bring balance to the force, I'm doing my part.

Can I offer a little bonus to be an agent for the Evil empire?

Bribery... Hmm... Very tempting indeed. Sith nights needs more overlords to take control of the mighty Jedi Republic. FrolickingMan's evil sith power would help a lot for sith night's needs.

It's just a click away FrolickingMan. You will make a fine sith night.

Well, there are only two proven evil choices among major empires. The original Galciv evil empire, the big bad GROSS, and the new Masters of Evil who are exclusively evil, the Evil Empire. Every other big empire leans towards good.

Evil... Good... Who cares as long as you enjoy crushing your opponents.

The Kingdom of Aldar welcomes you...

If a Jedi could feel such a thing, there is but one name that could bring his metachlorian laced blood to pulse with fear: Darth FrolickingMan!!! :SURPRISED:

It's funny how a thread that started out as a scoring question turned into an empire recruitment thread!! LOL

I love it!

TheFrolickingMan, the Fellowship of the Ring is a great empire for overlords who seek to help others and enjoy an active empire. We are currently in first place overall, have the first place player overall (by about 70,000 points!), have an active story being written (Evil Ray http://idle.thehueys.com/wotw/viewstory.php?sid=26&PHPSESSID=3a0805db0e4aed874f9ac40b5a71ccb5 ), and have pretty good relations with all empires.

We would welcome any overlord who wishes to play as evil as you want!

You guys are hilarious.

I feel so loved and wanted. It's a nice fuzzy feeling, but I have to admit that I'm kind of embarassed!

Darth FrolickingMan has a certain ring to it, but I have to give it some thought. ;) I promise I'll take a look at all of your sites.

I go frolic now, to steal candy from children or trip old women down staircases. La de da....it's all so easy when you're evil ...

Only the devs know for sure, but my guess is to keep the playing field fairly even.

To prevent a player from dominating the metaverse by the sheer number of scores submitted, the total points of all games submitted are divided by the square root of number of games submitted. This way every score submitted does add to your total, but in a diminishing returns kind of way.

Without a 30 day block, a player that had been playing for quite a while would be getting a smaller and smaller benifit from each score submitted. Over time, there would be virtually no benefit to submitting scores.

By breaking the scores into 30 day blocks, the system still works using the diminishing returns idea, and yet continues to reward long time players by giving them a fresh start every 30 days.

That is interesting, I wondered why some times my score decreases slightly. Thanks Ray and Qui-Gon.

As for empires, there is none that better suits the needs of the evil in all of us (this is true don't deny it ;) ).

I recommend joining the Evil Empire, but remember once you join an empire and your not happy with it (for whatever reason) you can always leave.

*Get's into character*

Your place is among those who are destined to rule the metaverse, join us. You are guranteed 5000 Torian Slaves and 5 Evil Empire Death Furnaces (formally known as Drengin Death Furnaces). Also if your score is impressive enough (which it is) you might be given a seat on the Senate (or the Evil Empire High Council, EEHC)

*Back to normal*

Joining an empire or not, have fun (regardless with the score) that's the point.
