Downloading difficulties

Please help?

When I download useing Mozilla, it goes to the option to unload with wbload, completes, then doesnt show up.
When I download useing windows, it doesnt go into its own folder, and attempts to overwrite any file thats already loose in there that matches it, of course, then, if I put it into a folder, it doesnt show up.

What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this?

I am not sure what you mean with "unload with wbload". But since you have problems, I would rather use the "save as"-option. This will download the file as a .wba -file. (I think Mozilla downloads to the desktop by default, if you wan't to change that go into your download options menu). After you have the file on your desktop just double-click on it and it should install fine.

ok, I downloaded to my documents folder, and they downloaded as wbload files - they dont show any extension at all... I double clicked, but nothing happened. Any ideas?

If I add them to my windowblinds skins folder, they turn into folders, but they dont have anything in them - its just bizarre

Step 1. File extension must not be hidden. If you're unsure what that means, open Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab > "Hide extensions for known file types" should be un-checked.

Step 2. Right-click the file and select Rename. Change the zip part of the name to the proper extenion. Example; skin1.zip = skin1.wba
If you get a warning about changing the extention, click OK

Step 3. Double-click the renamed file.

allright, I got the file extensions to show up, and they are downloading as wba files. however, when I double click them, all that shows up in the stardock/windowblinds/ is the folder, and the folder is empty. So of course, nothing shows up when I attempt to use the skin.

Huu? Thats weird indeed. Try the following in that case. Rename the wba-files to zip files (just right-click on them > rename > and type in zip over wba). Unzipp this file to a known location. You should get a folder which has lots of files in it. Then move this folder to your Stardock/Windowblinds folder.

If you still get an empty folder, I would recommend to try and use one of the free download-manager available (E.g Free download Manager http://www.klitetools.com/comments.php?id=149&catid=34&highlight

Does this only happen with Mozilla or with other browsers (IE) as well? And does this happen with other webpages, or just on Wincustomize? You might have to unistall Mozilla and reinstall it (download the newest version before doing that).

ok, I tried renaming the file and unzipping it, and that did give me all the files, but they didnt unzip to a folder... I had to put them into one, and when I moved it to my windowblinds folder, it still wouldnt show up as a skin.

That is the same problem I have in IE, btw, so it isnt just Mozilla. only, IE automatically downloads them as winzip files, and doesnt make me rename them.

What program are you using to unzip the files? Most programs unzip into a folder (if you right-click on a zipped files you often get several options like "expand", or "unzip". "Open" usually only gives you the files in the way you described). Also note, the preferred way would be of course if the files would download as a wba-file and then install themselves after double-clicking on it. But I am glad that you were able to at least get all the files. This means that it is most likely not a download problem, but the error must be somewhere else.

My other question now is:
Did you ever have another (older Version) of Windowblinds installed on this system? Do you see, and can you apply all the skins that came originally with Windowblinds?

Im useing winzip to unzip the files. Trial version. And as far as I know, Im useing the most up to date version of Windowblinds, do you think a reinstall may help?

I guess a reinstall would be the next thing. Make sure you unload Windowblinds first. Then uninstall it using Stardock Central (if you dont have SDC do it via 'Add and Remove Programs'. Do a reboot and after that install via SDC (alternatively via an installer).

I would recommend you check for old version of WB in you "add and remove programs panel" and remove them as well before installing the newest version.

Here's the deal. When you click "Open with wbload" with Firefox, WindowBlinds recognizes it and loads it up in its directories. However, the WB Configuration Screen doesn't open automatically. For me at least, the skin I downloaded and opened appears in the list along with the others patiently waiting for me to apply it.
