trade route mysteries

I'm sort of new to the forum and this is my first post. I've been reading them for a while but only recently did I decide to join in. I figured I might as well put my own question in to add to what seems to be countless others because its been bugging me a lot. I know that when a freighter ship is farther away from my source system, I make more money, and as it returns, I make less. I also am aware that the other empire is making money out of this as well. But since this is my trade route, do they make more money as the freighter approaches me, or do they make more as my freighter closes in on them? It's probably not that big of a deal but things like this can drive me crazy.

Hm, to add to this question... if you build starbases that boost the value of a trade route, do you alone get that bonus income, or does it get provided to the AI you are trading with also?

The answer to your questions:

drkavorkian: (what an awful name)
The freighter travels in a cyclic path - you make more as the freighter travels farther on the cyclic path. They make increasingly more for every parsec traveled. The monthly income increases until the freighter RETURNS to its home planet where it resets.
Your trade partner gets exactly the same income as you do.

Bug:
You and your trade partner always get the same income - trade starbases affect both you and your partner.

ok good, and sorry about the name, but i named a friends Planetside character that and i find it quite fitting for when i play gal civ as well since i always end up getting evil, mostly because its so tempting to take slaves. i cant say no to more slaves. my second choice for a name would have been buttsauce, but i figured this one had more dignity to it.

buttsauce or drkavorkian...wow, you really didn't have a choice, did you? LOL

so each parsec travelled in a turn gets added up? so if a trade ship is eternally "stuck" in just one parsec, it wont generate any income? i know i should know this by now, but i usually just send off my trade ships and just forget about them.

They still generate income. It isn't really stuck, it's just always at the same point in its route at the beginning of each turn. Kind of like if you look at me at the begging of each day (12 midnight), you'll see me at my PC playing GalCiv. That doesn't mean I'm there all the time, it just seems that way! ;)

The idea is to boost the friegter speed so that travels the exact distance of the trade route each turn (thus seeming to stand still), and enabling you to get the max income for that trade route every turn.
