Sorry I can't be of much help.
Maybe you should try asking in the GC Mods forum. I 'm pretty sure that HawaiiFive-O will be able to help you. He has even made a program that allow you to mod the game yourself quite simply.

Just on a side note: have you downloaded the bonus pack & latest patches? The bonus pack particularly added many features & random events. Maybe that's why you're missing a folder (just a guess -- I dont mod a lot therefore my ignorance in those matters)

Let me take a stab at it.

The \GFX folder should be located off the Gal Civ installation directory. On my system the path is:
C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Galactic Civilizations\GFX\

The actual mod files need to be placed into the \Data folder, on my system that path is:
C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Galactic Civilizations\Data\

I am unsure what you mean by "the retail CD is not the same as the download version". Could you please elaborate?

There is no Gfx Folder in my version
yes it is installed c:\Program\Strateg First\Galactic Civizations\Data\Mfx and all files in this folder .mfx
What this Retail Version CD(bought it at Best Buy) installed there is no Gfx Folder I added it but it does not help

The program does not look for a Gfx Folder or File extensions of PFX it defaults to Mfx folder with all file extensions of MFX

I'm sorry, I have no idea what is going on with your installation.

Found the problem!!! The program was installed it's self on top of another program, removed both programs and reinstalled now works fine.
