GalCiv questions?!:)

I have a few quick questions. I started playing a game and I am having a hard time for each of my planets it seems like the money spent every month is more that the incom of the planet. I have started building things on like embasies and news buildings but it seems not to help. Over all as an impire I am making good money per turn though.

I think this may be a bug but on a lot of the trade items if I keep playing around with the money per month numbers some times it will let me specify a number like 9bc and I can put in 5,000,000 months and they will accept it. Is this a bug or is it similating a permanent trade deal?

Is there any way to look at detailed tribute info? It would be nice to know who, what, how much and how long it is all borken down into.

Thanks for the info.

Also, I had to lean the hard way not to trade diplomacy translators to all the civs. Are there any other trade goods that it is a good idea not to sell?

How do you tell what a trade good does to benifit you once you build it?

DON'T build every building at first. those things cost money and maintanence. concentrate on economy helping buildings and stuff that increase planet quality (soil enhancement is the first thing to build usually). if your planet has total of 10 income, something that helps its economy by 5% but costs 5bc to maintain is gonna drain your economy.

to stop from being strapped for cash then open trade routes, build starbases with trade enhancement modules, research stuff that increases your economy or gives you more trade routes. if you are really bad at accounting choose the trade/economy enhancing intial race picks/parties.

Just don't sell grav accelerators to anyone who can war with you reasonably well! Let no one else get that one. In the end, speed is life of you know how to do it right. Of course, if it is some minor civ who couldn't hurt you if they tried, milk them for all they will give for it. :)

Another thing that happened is I decided to go to war with a minor civ since they started parking starfighters in 2 of my sectors. I squashed their star fighters and then they brough out a crap load of frigates and squashed me. The frigates were about 2 attk and 1 or 2 higher def that a frigate if I built one. The part that really make me worry is my frigates could get about 50-55 HP but theirs had 130+ HP for the same class boat.

What could they have done different than me to get that many more HP for their ships?

For the past year or so (game time) I have been listed as the most poweful civilization but then these peon minor races come and stop my ships, now of course they were not able to take my planets but still, all of my ship got wasted and I only destroyed on of their frigates and several star ships. One thing to note, when I attacked them I did not have any frigates because they cost so much to maintain. I mostly had corvetes.

Some of my terms are off a little but I think you get what I am saying..

Or just build shipyards and the like. Or take advantage of HP boosting events.

Don't forget the military resources. Be sure to get a constructor over them asap.

General economy issues. Don't build those useless buildings (news, embassy), unless you are having a hard time with culture influence. Every building has a purpose, don't just build them all. I usually build in early game: Soil improvement, Entertainment, bank, Manufacturing Center, Anti-matter power plant (not fusion - it's too expensive in maintenance). Really you don't need alot of this stuff, except for the + economy buildings). Mine the economy (green) resources. Pick economy picks for your next game settings. Make sure you sell your not-so-useful techs, especially to the minors. Make sure you get DT (you did that right). If you tech whore (sell all your techs to everyone), you can easily get +100 bc per month in the early game.

No detailed tribute info that i know of.

Uhmm for lots of newbie questions consult the Guide:

Err one more thing, i tend to specialize my planets. Good planets (PQ 20 or better) are production machines, so at the best planet I will build all the +manufacture improvments and manuf. capital and hyperion manuf. plant and whatever else I can find. I use these to build capital ships and especially wonders and trade goods. On planets that give me good +research or + starship bonuses, I note it by changing the name of the system to Name (R2) or (S2) if the improvement is in the second planet. Then I max out the research or ship improvements for that planet, and it becomes a ship or research factory. Otherwise beyond Research lab and occassionally Shipyard I don't use these improvements on my planets. The later ones give huge improvements but are also very expensive.
