Does Apple's Dashboard = Stardock's DesktopX?

I would post images of it but since Apple is kind of protectant of this, and has allready asked sites to take pics of the widgets down I wont post. Wait a few hours and try www.thinksecret.com or mac rumors. Anyways, widgets, or "a set of accessory apps" as they like to call it strongly reminds me of DX. Its not nowhere near as powerful as it uses Javascript mostly but they do seem to be awefuly similar. then again Konfabulator also seems to be simiar to DX http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/dashboard.html

other than the obvious things such as scripting and such is there really a difference in between the three?

It's official. Dashboard comes with 10.4 Tiger. I was also reminded of a more limited desktopX. I was also disappointed by the lack of innovative features in this release.

Gotta love that ripple effect though, only Apple...

Whats funnier is the load of Konfab users saying Apple have ripped 'their' idea!!! ... what comes around goes around guys [konfab], live with it.

that expose ability still can't be beat.. but otherwise i'd say, like konfab, dekstop x provides the same options with a little more muscle. you can replace your whole GUI, after all.

Who cares about who did what first or who copied who. (as long as nobody is breaking any laws) Why does everyone act like children when it comes to Mac versus Microsoft. Some people prefer Macs and some Microsoft. Some people prefer Chevrolet over Ford and vice versa. Sheesh.
This my dad is better than your dad attitude is so childish.

I really don't get the controversy about this... these "widgets" are nothing new... their heritage goes all the way back to the "Desk Accessories" included in early, early versions of Mac OS. The only difference now is that they're on their own Expose layer and covered in gooey goodness. If they looked like normal Apple apps rather than appearing as jazzed up applets like they do now, I doubt anyone would be making the comparison.

I think it's also interesting to note that these Dashboard Widgets do not run on the normal desktop... only in their special layer.

The difference is that Dashboard is using Webkit only. So, you can use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash, Java, Shockwave, Quicktime etc etc.. And i think the Konfabulator guys are whining too loudly, when they ripped of DesktopX them selves.
