Lan IM, could use your help please

I have 3 computers in my house connected through the DSL router. I''m looking for some really simple little app which will allow me to send a message to another user on the lan and allow a reply. There doesn''t have to be anything fancy about it. I''m trying out LanXP right now, but it''s not free. I''ve also got QuickMessenger waiting in the wings to try out.

I''m running XP Pro SP1, the other computer I''d want to talk to is W98.

Surely there is some easy to use, simple, freebie out there somewhere.

If you know of something, I''d appreciate a recommendation. Thanks.

David

There is the simple 'Net Send' command that runs from the Command Prompt,
or,
here is a little utility that uses the above command and provides a Windows interface. It's called QuickMessenger:

....there are a number of small utilities like the above. A google search should find you a list.

Thanks UBob, I did the google thing . I've been to tucows, zdnet, tudogs and snapfiles. I have dl'd QM, but haven't installed it yet, as I'm trying out a different app atm, which I don't really care for.

I appreciate your recommendation.

I wonder if it would be possible to create a DX object which would do this?? HMmmmm. I would have no clue

werewolf, if it's just simple messaging you want then use the 'WinPopup sofware that comes on the Windows 98 install disk. Here's a brief description of how to install it:

I'm trying something called BorgChat right now...If that doesn't work, will push on
