Deskscapes 2026 error on installing

Hello,

i just downloaded latest DeskScapes2026_setup.exe, digitally signed on 22nd May https://forums.stardock.com/541656/deskscapes-2026-release-feedback-thread/page/2#3993503 . After that I uninstalled DeskScapes 11, rebooted PC then installed the latest version. At the end of the install I got a error for DeskScapesConfig.exe "Unable to start the application correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application. "

The desktop screen turned to black and by opening Start11 V2 (2.71), the latter was completely blank.

My OS is Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (build 26200.8457)

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. From what I experience, there should be Reboot notice as soon as the installation done. Do you see it and rebooted your system?

Hello,

I didn't get that notice. I've rebooted the PC now but when I start DeskScapes 2026 from Start11 menu I get the same error as before (DeskScapesConfig.exe "Unable to start the application correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application. ", and Start11V2 becomes blank. This time the desktop did not go black. When I click on OK to close the error Start11V2 isn't blank anymore and I can use it as before.

I mean that when that error message was visible, the Start11 menu was completely white, I've attached a screenshot. After closing that error message by clicking on OK button, the Start11 menu was visible again, populated with icons, search bar, menu etc

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [DeskScapes Purging and re-installing]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

In my account webpage I see Object Desktop for which I've subscribed and Deskscapes 11, not Deskscapes 2026. Isn't DeskScapes2026_setup.exe, digitally signed on 22nd May the latest version ? Anyway I followed all the steps you suggested: purge, reboot, re-install, reboot. I got the error for DeskScapesConfig.exe "Unable to start the application correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" after a few seconds that I entered in Windows 11, same Start11 behavior as before.

I guess I'll uninstall DeskScapes 2026 and I'll revert to DeskScapes 11 which worked fine, hoping that a future DeskScapes 2026 version will solve my issue.

At last I solved the issue : after seeing in Windows Event Viewer that the error in Deskscapesconfig.exe was caused by MSVCP140.dll, version 14.30.30704.0, I searched for the Visual C++ Redistributable downloads webpage, found at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#latest-supported-redistributable-version

The latest supported redistributable version is 14.51.36231.0

At first I downloaded and installed the X64 version then rebooted the PC but that didn't solve the issue so I downloaded and installed the X86 version then rebooted the PC and now DeskScapes 2026 starts correctly.
