Deskscapes 2026 background

Dear Basj,

tried your new  package today and unfortunately find:

Does not work with Start11 on: If  Start11 is enabled, no new background wallpaper is applied. If disabled, I can apply a new wallpaper, then this flashes for approx. 1 second and then background turns black. If I press "Disable Backscapes", the black background turns back to my original background.

I also tried to disable fences: same behavior.

Any ideas?

BR Steffen

I believe we have identified the issue.  You need to download https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=35&msockid=1a6387e185a769b933699188848068b7

These runtimes will make it happy after you sign out and in again.

I will make sure the next update resolves the need for this.

Does everyone need to install this, or just those who are having issues?

End of pelaird's quote

Just those with issues.  Many people will have those files, but some will not.

Also if you had DS 11 before, please uninstall, REBOOT and then install DS 2026 as it may be there are mismatched files installed.

No special hardware: HP zenbook with NVIDIA card, external HP monitor. Behavior does not improve if I unplug the monitor.

Win 11 with latest updates.

No DS 11 before, it was a clean new install.

Do you have anything else installed which might impact wallpapers or the desktop?

Start11 shouldn't be having any impact itself.

I am having the same issue.

  • I have Start 11 v2 installed
  • Never had a previous version of DS installed
  • Installed DS 2026 and rebooted
  • Setting a wallpaper in Windows works great, clicking the button in DS 2026 hangs for a few seconds, then does nothing

Computer specs:

  • Windows 11: [Version 10.0.26200.8390]
  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K (3.20 GHz)
  • Installed RAM 128 GB (128 GB usable)
  • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 5090

Other Stardock software installed:

  • Start11 v2 (2.72)
  • Fences 6 (6.46)
  • CursorFX (4.03)

Well it clearly isn't too low CPU specs :)

We will investigate further as there seems to be something thats stopping some computers from applying.  I suspect a missing runtime file.

Works fine from my side.

Thank you to everybody involved.

Neil and team - Installing the runtime libraries resolved my issue as well.  Installed > Rebooted > BAM!

Thanks for the fast debugging and turnaround.
