Fences Backup to another computer does not work

Works on one computer but not another

I have a master computer and am copying the Fences backups to two other computers. One worked fine. The other seemed to try to at least partially revert to an early version. I deleted all backups and no matter what, it at least partially reverted back to a previous configuration.

Photos of the problem

FromMasterPC has a Fence labelled To Create a desktop.... in the upper left-hand corner and Richard's Wisdom Fence centered across the top middle.

What was actually created was in WhatWasRestored... Note: To create a desktop... Fence is centered in the top and Richard's Wisdom is centered underneath. This is somewhat like what I used to have before updating the "target" computer. The other fences contain the updated icons. It is as though there is hidden backup information other than that stored in ....\Fences\Backups.

Thanks,

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know few things.

  1. Does all the systems using the same monitor resolution and same Windows scale factors? etc.
  2. What is Windows version and OS Build number on all systems.
  3. What is Fences version on all system.

Thank you,

Hi Richard160, I'm wondering if the two computers use different screen resolutions?

Fences remembers them on a per-resolution basis, so it would make sense if it is restoring the layout and then switching the layout to the saved layout, which is what was stored when that resolution was last used.

In theory, if this is the case, you can modify the relevant backup file to remove/nurf the relevant resolution on the target system. In this case, if this data doesn't exist, it'll copy the existing layout and scale it to the new resolution.

Thanks for the info, let us know if it helps

Thanks for the quick responses.

Fences 6.2

Windows Version 25H2 (0S Build 26200.8246)

The master (source) computer is an identical system to that of the one that did not work - both are HP All-In-one dual screen monitors with the same resolution. The source and target had different scale resolutions but after I changed them to match, I still have the same problem.

Interestingly enough the target that worked is a 15" laptop.

In addition, even if the resolution/scaling is different, I am not sure how that would account for once fence being moved from the left to the center.
