Taskbar Thumbnail previews cropped after connecting a second monitor

Hi, I've come across a minor bug with Start11 version 2.6 with the Taskbar Thumbnail Previews.

I have my Taskbar set to display vertically on the left of my main monitor only.

Whenever I attach or detach a second monitor, the Thumbnail Previews stop displaying a full preview of the open windows for the applications that have multiple windows open (like Outlook, Chrome, etc.). The thumbnails are cropped vertically (and oddly, the previews are cropped less and less the further down the Taskbar the application is located).

If I go into Start11 settings and click on Restart Explorer, the Thumbnail Previews return to full size (non-cropped) until I attach/detach the second monitor again.

I know there was a bug previously related to Thumbnail Previews being cropped, and that appears to have been fixed, but this seems different as it happens only when I attach/detach a second monitor to my laptop.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can't reproduce your issue on my system. I tested by turning on and off my secondary monitor, should be similar like plug in and unplug it from the system. We need more details.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number.
  2. Start11 full version number install.
  3. Displays information such as resolution, Windows Scale (100%, 150%, 200% etc) connection type on all monitors.
  4. Post a short video showing us the issue would help us understand it better.

Thank you,

Hi,

Here's more info:

Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 build 26200.7840

Start 11 version 2.6.0.2

Main laptop built-in display is 3840x2400, scale 200%. Secondary display is 3840x2160, scale 200%, connected via Display port via Lenovo ThunderBolt 4 Dock.

I can provide screen shots/videos if needed, but is there a way I can provide them securely?

I'd rather not post images of my desktop for the entire world to see.

Thanks,
Ray

Sorry for the delay - I got busy and didn't have time to try and get some screen shots or video.

I PM'd you a couple screen shots of the issue.

I thought maybe the problem was because I usually don't have the external monitor attached to my laptop when I boot up so I tried doing that and the Thumbnail previews looked fine. however, as soon as I disconnected the external monitor, after my laptop screen refreshed, the thumbnail previews were croppped again, so this issue happens both when I connect as well a disconnect the external monitor.

I have a short video that shows how the cropping is less the further down on the taskbar the program is, but I need to figure out where I can upload it so I can share the link with you.

Thanks,
Ray

Both monitors are the same resolution (4k) and using the same scaling (200%).
Graphics driver is the latest (I use Lenovo Commercial Advantage app to keep all drivers up-to-date).
I'll try just restarting Explorer direclty instead of via the Start11 Settings to see if it behaves any differently the next time it happens.

Any update on a fix for this? I was hoping the latest update which mentioned a fix for an issue with cropping of the thumbnail previews was a fix for this issue, but I just connected my second monitor today and the problem still happens.

I have to restart explorer from withing Start11 to get them back to normal.

I believe this was resolved in 2.7.

I would suggest uninstalling, REBOOTING and then installing 2.7 just in case the install didn't work properly.

Okay, I tried the unistall, reboot, and re-install and I still have the problem.

Whenever I disconnect or connect the second monitor, the thumbnail previews are cropped until I restart explorer.

I'm seeing the exact same behavior as I provided in the screen shots and video I sent and I still have the exact same setup as listed above.

We will investigate further then as a related issue was resolved before.

I assume the very same does not happen if you do not have enhanced taskbar enabled (trying to rule out Windows bug here)

This only happens when I have Start 11 configured to enhance the taskbar and I have the task bar configured to Align Left instead of at the bottom of the screen.

If I enable enhanced task bar and locate it at the bottom I don't have any issues with cropping of the thumbnail previews.

However, moving the task bar vertically on the left is the main reason I purchased Start11. I can't stand the task bar at the bottom of the screen.
