Start11 - Start button responds unpredictably to stylus taps

I am using Start11 2.55 on Windows 11 Pro 25H2 on a desktop PC.

When I click the Start button with my mouse, Start11 displays its custom start menu perfectly 100% of the time. However, when I am using my graphics tablet (an XP-Pen Deco Pro LW Gen2) and I tap the Start button with the stylus, the behavior is unpredictable:

  • most of the time the standard Windows 11 start menu is displayed;
  • sometimes both the standard and Start11 menus are displayed simultaneously;
  • rarely, I get only the Start11 menu.

Note that this is not a tablet PC, and my graphics tablet is not the type with a screen. I'm not using Windows in tablet mode, just using my stylus as a mouse. The stylus works fine in every other Windows feature - I've only had trouble with Start11. Once I'm in the start menu the stylus works fine; it's only bringing up the menu that's flaky.

It's possible, if this is a touch screen, you may need to change this setting.

It's not a touch screen, just a regular desktop monitor. I set that setting to "Force not touch mode device" and restarted Explorer, but it made no difference to the behavior of the Start button.

I understand now. You are using something like a Wacom drawing pad with a stylus. It could possibly be the pressure setting for the stylus.

Does it make a difference where you are on the pad when you click the Start Button, or is the pad a pixel for pixel image of the monitor?

Right, very much like a Wacom tablet. The drawing area is mapped to the screen area, so to click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen, I have to tap the lower left corner of the tablet. Is that what you meant?

End of rand3's quote

As an test, move the Start button to the middle, and see if it makes a difference.

There is no way for me to try and reproduce this since I don't have a drawing tablet.
Do you have any pinned apps on your taskbar? Do you have this same issue with pinned apps?
Are you using the enhanced taskbar?
Are you using a custom start button?

OK, I think I figured it out. My friend has Start11 and a different brand of tablet, and he wasn't having any trouble with his Start button. That made me think that the XP-Pen driver software, Pentablet, might be the problem. When I closed Pentablet, the problem with the Start button went away. So I took a look at the Pentablet settings, and I noticed that "Windows Ink" was on (by default). I turned that off, and now the Start button works perfectly. Of course, I also lose all Windows Ink features, but I wasn't using them anyway!
