Group Tab's Texture won't Stay Applied

After an indeterminate amount of time, it reverts to no texture

I'm not sure if this has been going on prior to Start11v2 - Beta 2.5.5.1, but the tab texture applied to the first tab in the first group, on the first page, on the Windows 10 style menu won't stay applied. After an indeterminate amount of time, from a few hours to a few days, the background texture will revert to no texture. None of the other tabs in this group or any other group exhibit this issue.

Here is the settings info for the tab in question:

Windows 11 Pro -22631.5771
Start11v2 - 2.5.5.1 Beta
Windows 10 Style
Tab RGB Color = 0, 142, 64
Tab Transparency = Solid
Tab Background Texture = s11-tab-texture-07
Menu Group widths = 14 small icons wide
Enable text shadows = ON
Tab is set to "Always open on this tab index"

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I am testing this one, and I don't see the issue yet. Perhaps, as you mentioned it might take sometime to see it happen. Since I am testing on a VM machine, I can't keep on testing without turning it off. And I am on Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4770).

Few questions come to mind.

  1. Does the issue appear on previous Windows 24H2 OS build?
  2. Does restarting Window Explorer restore the texture?

Thank you,

I am on Windows 11 Pro -22631.5771; and I'll test out the restarting Explorer next time it happens.

Okay. I know File Explorer has crashed a few time lately, so I decided to manually restart Explorer as a test. It seem Explorer restarting is at least one reason for what causes this to happen.

Please test on your machine and let me know.

I'll continue to monitor the issue on my end.

May I know why File explorer crash? Can you reproduce it to crash easily.

A few time when changing an icon on the Windows 10 style Start11 menu, Explorer has crashed.

As a test, I installed Start11v2.5.3.1, and this issue does not occur. The tab background texture survived both a restart of Explorer and a computer restart. It must be something that changed in 2.5.5.0 or 2.5.5.1. Evidently the Registry setting for this tab is not being respected when Start11 service is started.

This is the setting in 2.5.3.1 with the tab background texture applied.

This is the setting in 2.5.3.1 with the tab background texture not applied.

And this is the setting in 2.5.5.1 with the tab background texture applied after restarting Explorer. No texture is shown on the tab in question.

So it appears the Registry setting is correct, but is not being respected after an Explorer restart or a computer restart.

This issue doesn't appear to be fixed in 2.5.5.3. I have discovered that if I change the tabs position by moving it to the right it regains its texture, but the tab that took its place in position 1 looses it's texture.

Also, if I change the "Always open on this tab index" to the second tab, it becomes the tab that looses its texture.

Again, it's only in the first group on the page.
