Save your graphic as a PNG with a transparent background, no need to worry bout trimming your Icons
What app are you using to make your icons?

I have tried using a transparent canvas as you said, but it doesn´t save the problem. I am using Fireworks MX, I export icons as GIF with INDEX TRANSPARECY or ALPHA TRANSPARENCY

Don't export the graphic. Just save it as... whatever.png

Okay, let me explain a little bit more. I am working with circular icons (as globes or bubbles) some are created (not by me) on a square basis (a square and insede a circle) I wish to cut borders in order to have only a perfect circle.
Then I would like to convert it to .ico becoming it on a multisizes icon (128px and under)
What's your advise?

Not possible, just make your image fill the square and save it as .png
Use Icon Developer or similar program and import the png and resize.
When the image gets converted to icon, it won't see the transparent part of the image
In other words get Icon Developer and you won't be sorry
