Fences 6 Beta 2 Alignment Issues

Fences 6

I am running Windows 11 x64.

Specs:

Microsoft Windows Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4061).

Intel Core i9 9900K @ 3.60GHz; 32GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

Scenario 1:

The Tab Style is set to "Rounded".

✔ Keep groups lined up when moving

✔ Keep groups spaced 3 pixels apart when moving

✔ Keep groups sized to even multiples of icons (lxl, 2x2, 3x2, etc) when resizing

Why are the Fences without tabs unable to snap in line with the Fences that are grouped with tabs.

For example the Height of the ungrouped Fence marked 7 is few pixels shorter than the two grouped Fences next to it 6 or 8. This happens even though the bottom base line of all three Fences are in perfect alignment with each other.

If I try to resize the ungrouped Fence 7 without disabling snapping, the #7 attempts to jump to a larger height than the Fences next to it. For example the Fence 7 height is 2x but if I try to make it taller, with snapping enabled the Fence snaps directly to 2.3x which is too tall.

Scenario 2:

The Tab Style is set to "Rounded".

✔ Keep groups lined up when moving

✔ Keep groups spaced 3 pixels apart when moving

✔ Keep groups sized to even multiples of icons (lxl, 2x2, 3x2, etc) when resizing

Imagine this, "Fence A" has 2 normal Fence tabs (no folder portals) and is sitting above Fence B. Both Fences want to be the exact same length and width.

"Fence B" has 3 tabs, one of those tabs is a folder portal the other two are normal Fence tabs.

When I have the folder portal tab selected on Fence B the size "6x" appears larger than the size "7x" on Fence A I can not get Fence A to snap to size with Fence B nor will Fence B snap to size with Fence A.

If I select a different tab and the folder tab is not open. I can then resize Fence B to the size of Fence A. By switching tabs and resizing Fence B to the exact same size as Fence A the measurement now shows 7x for both Fences.

This doesn't seem right since initially the "folder portal tab selected on Fence B the size "6x" appears larger than the size "7x" on Fence A I can not get Fence A to snap to size with Fence B nor will Fence B".

Any idea how to fix these things? Is this a bug?

One last question what does checking the box "Keep groups lined up when moving" really even do? I can't tell the difference in the behavior of Fences when unchecked vs checked.

I can confirm that the "rounded" style does not work with Fences that do not have tabs. As of Beta 2, untabbed Fences will always use the segmented style.

However, If you change your Fences tab style to "segmented" instead of "rounded" then they will all be the same size.

For your second alignment issues between Fences and Folder portals...

If you go to layout > icon spacing > and check the box that says "use same spacing inside and outside of Fence groups"

This option only works for fences and does not work for folder portals and It does in fact create alignment issues between folder portals and normal fences.

You can either unclick the option or you can try playing with scale inside the folder portal. To do this you can hold he control key and use your mouse wheel.

Of course I would also like to see both of these scaling issues fixed eventually in a future update

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I believe for getting those Fences to align properly, you can use the drag while holding/pressing the "shift key".
