Rebooting fixes messed-up Start1 taskbar icons/apps mismatch?

I posted here recently about my Start11 woes, where the taskbar becomes corrupted and the icons I have pinned there no longer bring up the right apps, but rather bring up apps which would have been appropriately mapped to an adjacent icon -- basically an icon/app mismatch. Very disturbing when you are trying to get work done. Restoring a valid Start11 backup does not help. However, I have noted that, if I reboot, the Start11 taskbar is again fully functional, with all icons pointing to the appropriate apps. I can figure why this might be the case. But I don't know what it means in terms of getting this bug fixed. Or fixing it myself? Because having to reboot all the time just to fix the taskbar is just not an option.

Does anybody out there ever experience this phenomenon? Do you have a way to cope with this? What does customer support have to say about this?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, have you tried restarting Explorer.exe when the issue appear? Read here on how to restart explore.exe including the easy batch file which is fast. https://www.howtogeek.com/198815/use-this-secret-trick-to-close-and-restart-explorerexe-in-windows/. Also, do you notice when or how the issue appear? Random? or some specific step?

Thank you.

Thank you for the suggestion. I may have tried it in the past but I'm not sure so, I'll definitely try it out asap. But it makes sense that it would work. And would be less of a bother than having to shut down a bunch of applications and rebooting. Only drawback for me is that I often have many File Explorer windows open at the same time. Even more now that I'm working on Windows 11, where you can have evidently as many desktops as you want. And all those File Explorers go away when you terminate explorer.exe.

I'm curious though, is this thing with taskbar icons and apps getting scrambled considered a bug in Start11, and if so, have you any idea when it will be repaired?

Thanks again for your suggest.

We did have some report on similar issue, but most, I believe, have been resolved. If not we will have lots more report on these issue. What might be the contributing factors are, some other application in your system is also controlling how the taskbar work. Program such as DisplayFusion, StartAllBack, Other 3rd party software which add their own status icon on the taskbar etc.

What you can try it to do a cleanboot and see if the issue appear while in there. Here is a guide to do Cleanboot. Do note that Cleanboot steps need to done carefully.

Thank you,

Although you restored a valid Start11 backup, some program files may be corrupted, which could explain this persistent incompatibility. You can try reinstalling Start11 to see if that fixes the problem.
