Stsrt11 V2 not fully compatible with Windows 24H2, regarding 3rd monitor

For a long time now Start11 has had a problem placing a taskbar onto my third monitor.

When it starts up, the third monitor's taskbar is initially visible, but after a few minutes it would disappear.

In the past, I knew to use the Start11's control window to "restart windows" and that seemed to fix the problem.

Since I updated to Windows 24H2 this work around seldom works.

Is there any way to consistently fix this flaw?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know few things

  1. Windows 11 24H2 OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 v2 full version number.
  3. If you uninstall Start11 do you see the taskbar on your 3rd monitor?

2. Start11V2 Version 2.51

3. Yes, I believe that when I uninstalled Start11V2 I had three task bars - one on each of my three monitors.

Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

Unfortunately I see no change.

I can bring back the third taskbar by restating window explorer two or three times.

Conflict with other application are possible. Please try cleanboot step as mention here: https://forums.stardock.com/505872/start11-support-faq#cleanboot. Do note that these steps need to be done carefully. Try it and report back.

Well, I really did not think that I was dealing with some hardware incompatibility.

On a fresh account all taskbars are present.

The question becomes what among my very many other pieces of software has an issue with Start11V2?

It would take weeks to start from the beginning and slowly re-install everything and tweak each setting until I might find the errant interaction....

Or I can set Windows not to show a taskbar on secondary monitors,  which appears to be the less time consuming approach.

If you have any better idea, please let me know.

Try looking into software that control/change/add-on something into your taskbar or change your Explorer behavior , something like Displayfusion, StartAllBack, ExplorerPatcher, Any Windows shell extension/add-on application etc.

A long time ago I used DisplayFusion, but I uninstalled it long ago. I couldn't find any of the programs that you listed.

I updated a Lenovo Carbon Laptop to 24h2 and now start11 V2 is stuck in "Hide when not in use" mode? I checked taskbar behavior not to hide, but it keeps hiding!?

Any ideas how I can fix this weird interaction?

For auto hide taskbar, there is two location that can control that behavior, One within Windows taskbar setting and another on in Start11 taskbar setting. Make sure both are set to off.

I have made sure a dozen times.

i have cycled it back and forth to hide it, then not to hide it and the taskbar appeared again for 10, 15 seconds and then went back to hiding.

Well, the only way I can think off, is use the suggested cleanboot steps again and reactivate the install application one at a time until you see the issue again. Don't think you need to uninstall and reinstall those many application.

On another note, try this steps, backup your current setting and after that, do reset setting, reboot and see if the issue resolved. If it does, it might be that your setting was corrupted.

I tried “reset” and even “clear”, but it is still shy and after a little while hides again.

Clean boot may solve it, but at the cost of hours of re-installation. I have hundreds of app installed. If I could guess which one is doing this I would try it in a second, but I have no clue which one is misbehaving with Start11v2.

As I have mentioned above, you don't need to uninstall and reinstall those apps. Just disable the start up services that load on boot and enable it one at the time to test it. How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot

If your problem does not occur while the computer is in a clean boot environment, then you can determine which startup app or service is causing the problem by systematically turning them on or off and restarting the computer. While turning on a single service or startup item and rebooting each time will eventually find the problematic service or application, the most efficient way to do this is to test half of them at a time, thus eliminating half of the items as the potential cause with each reboot of the computer. You can then repeat this process until you've isolated the problem.

Well, good news and bad news.

The clean boot had the same problem, so it has nothing to do with Start11V2.

It is 24H2 interacting with my Lenovo Carbon laptop.

i’ll have to give Microsoft a bit more time to get 24H2 right. For now I will roll my laptop back to 23H2.

(My other Lenovo laptop’s Windows Update doesn’t offer me 24H2 yet, so I think MS knows something is wrong.)
