Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.3194

I've started encountering an issue after the latest set of Windows patches.  Essentially, the default Windows start button is not being deactivated properly.  I've recorded a video of it happening.

It is a little hard to see in the video, but if I mouse directly over the start button and touch nothing else, it will not have a mouse-over effect.  If I click it, Start11 opens properly.  However, if I mouse over another button, then back over to the start menu button, it will obtain a mouse-over effect, and, when I click it at that time, it will pop open both the Start11 menu AND the default Windows start menu.

This started happening after the Patch Tuesday updates a week ago.  I can work around the issue by applying a custom start button image, as shown in the video.

My Start11 settings:

Start Menu: Windows 10 Style
Taskbar: Enhanced OFF, transparency 0% solid, auto-hide enabled in Windows settings, left-aligned enabled in Windows settings.
Search: Use Start11 Search ON

I could give a settings backup if it would be helpful, but it had a ton of base64 encoded data inside it and I didn't know what could possibly be leaked if I attached it.

EDIT: Some extra information:

Display: Alienware AW3423DWF, 3440x1440 ultrawide.  Only one display.
Other properties: 10-bit color, 144 Hz variable refresh rate (FreeSync), dynamic refresh in windows: OFF
Scale: 100%

When I got v2.11, my task bar is an inch wide, and the actual content of the bar is a small ribbon;  this is the bottom default or the top option.

The right and left toolbar options are good sizes, but the option to color them doesn't change anything; this is for all colors. The colored texture  with  blue swirls, the swirls are minimal with the stretch to fit. option

I hadn't upgraded for a while, maybe skipped two or three updates. I upgaded yesterday, and now two important things are broken:

1) I use the old and deprecated, but still useful ObjectBar (also a Stardock product), which I had docked to the bottom edge in hidden mode, where a key combo which was triggered by a mouse button (logitech is customizable, allows to assign keyboard combos to buttons).

When I pressed the button, then this ObjectBar bar would show directly above the Taskbar, at its full length. This has been working for years.

Now it does not show up anymore, when the enhanced taskbar is enabled in Start11.

2) I use the old and deprecated, but still useful TrueLaunchBar, because I was slowly migrating from ObjectBar to TrueLaunchbar. I had this set to be docked to the bottom edge, not in taskbar mode, and hidden.

When I moved the mouse to the bottom right corner of my center monitor, then TLB would show, giving me access to the shortcuts. This has been working since I started using it, about a year ago.

Now it does not show up anymore, when the enhanced taskbar is enabled in Start11.

This forced me to disable enhanced taskbar, which forced me to use that *huge* Windows taskbar, which can't be colored in black, because the font will also be in black. So I have those semi-bright, big taskbars on all three monitors all the time. Not good, it was perfect before.

What changed in that update? Why are these tools now broken?

Same problem seems to exist Launchbar Commander and QQ.

How do I download the previous version?

Please try the 2.52 beta as we had some fixes for apps which dock to the screen edges in there.

We made changes in 2.5 to address problems when taskbars were moved or resized and docked bars not being happy and this has taken a little while to handle all the edge cases of this.

Please note that ObjectBar is entirely unsupported on Windows 11 so it would not be part of our testing process.  In fact I think it was last updated in 2011 so coming up 14 years ago and I suspect discontinued for at least 8 years.

Due to how QQ works for accounts this is not something we can do any testing with as we are not located in China.

@Neil Banfield, thank you for your reply.

Is there a way to download the installers of the last two versions?

Start11 v2.5 Changelog (Released 01/15/2025)

Start11 v2.11 Changelog (Released 09/09/2024)

I think, but am not entirely sure, that I was using 2.11. The problem is that the upgrade process does not make a copy of the downloaded binary. Normally updates get made by the software downloading to the download folder or desktop and then executing it from there, so that the installer binary remains accessible.

Thank you in advance.

I can work with you on prior versions but we would like to know if the current beta resolves your reported issue.

I had a lot of problems with the 2.50 betas with no taskbar preview thumbnails, jump lists not on the screen, and the start menu button disappearing, so I stopped following.

I installed 2.52.1 last week and I have yet to experience any of these issues or any other new usability issues. Love finally being able to go back to having my taskbar on the side of my display under Windows 11, great work by the Stardock team!

Quoting g0thiC_iCe_cReaM,

Also, not sure if anyone has reported this in the past, but the taskbars on the secondary monitors will often just not respond to anything until you interact with the primary monitor's task bar. Happens to me multiple times a day. I have the following set:

Windows task bar settings:

"When using multiple displays, show my taskbar apps on" set to "All taskbars"

"Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels" set to "Always"

"Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels on other taskbars" set to "Always"

Start 11 settings:

Start menu aligned left, taskbars all aligned top, start11 set to windows 10 style.

Taskbar size: small

In enhanced taskbar settings:

taskbar buttons on primary display set to never combine

taskbar buttons on secondary displays set to always combine (this is probably the problem)

Unfortunately I don't have a precise set of reproduction steps since it happens while I'm working and seems fairly random when it does occur.

Uninstall, reboot (very important) and reinstall Start11.

End of Neil's quote

That doesn't fix it.

So over the last few weeks having to work on a lot of stuff across 3 monitors I've noticed more of a pattern, none of the taskbar icons on secondary monitors work until you click on the start menu on the secondary monitors (you need to have the start menu on all monitors) - then the buttons on the secondary task bars start working again.

Quoting g0thiC_iCe_cReaM,

Quoting Neil Banfield,

Was this working with the 2.5 release?

Checked one of my laptops I didn't update and yes, it's working fine in 2.5.

We think we have identified the problem and the next beta should address this.  Thanks for letting us know.

End of Neil's quote

This is still a problem (https://forums.stardock.com/534043/page/1/#3959139) as of 2.5.1.3

I could provide you with a launchbar commander settings file to use as a test to determine what it is causing it to break a launch bar that is docked to the side of a monitor if you need. I reverted back to 2.5.0 again and it's working fine.

Is there a known issue that the taskbar will only move to the top of the screen on one monitor when using multi monitors?  If so is there any expectation this will be resolved.  I'm currently in trial mode and trying to decide if I should make the purchase or not.

Using the latest version 2.51 my taskbar only appears at the top of the screen on the main monitor.  My monitors are identical.  They have the latest software and I don't see any errors reported in Event Viewer.

Thanks for any feedback!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, no, I can set my taskbar on top for my top monitors setup. Just make sure you use the correct setting. Refer screenshot below.

Start11 2.51, Win11 Pro 24H2 with the latest "patch Tuesday" updates as of March 12 2025 applied. I did not notice this issue before the reboot to install the latest Windows update.

Issue: When I let Start11 enhance the taskbar, the thumbnail displayed when hovering over an application on the taskbar is offset to the left. When I disable Start11's taskbar enhancement, thumbnails appear over the hovered application.

Here's a screen gif of the behavior I'm seeing.

This is a dual 4K display setup, side by side.

Unfortunately, I can not reproduce your issue on my system. But, I am using the latest v2.52 beta. Please try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products . Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

The latest non-beta version available to me is 2.51. I downloaded that, uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled. It's working better but still appears to be a bit wonky. Notice the transition from Telegram to Teams:

If your intent was to have me install the beta version, that was not clear. I'm not as adventurous as I was in my youth so I went the GA route.

Is the issue only appear on Telegram?

It looks like I ran out of replies for new accounts, but realized that I had originally registered my Start11 purchase through my Paypal email address and forgot about that when I created my forum account. So, at least for now DodgerOfDeBoulets = DodgeDeBoulet.

Anyway ... yes, it appears that it affects only Telegram, and then only when it's adjacent to Teams. It doesn't have that behavior when adjacent to any other applications or even Teams when Taskbar Enhancement is disabled.

Hi, I ran the full 30 day trial of Start11 and didn't notice an issue. I've paid for a single licence today and when I click on the Start button, there is a momentary flash of a different start button/screen. Then Start11 appears and works correctly.

If I click the Start button a second time, Start11 disappears and the other start button/screen is visible (the one that momentarily flashed when I first clicked the Start button).

Start11 works fine, but this flashing of the other start button is irritating. Is there any way to remove it?

I'm running Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631.

Many thanks.
