Some parts here are not making sense to me...
Primary is set to kvm mode, secondary shows seamless display.
When connecting, I get an unknown protocol error (3).
I am trying to set KVM mode on the secondary to match primary, but there i s no way I can find to do so. I have uninstalled including settings and reinstalled, still no KVN mode showing.
There are no 'modes' to set on the Primary (other than it being Primary or Secondary). Primary PCs can have Seamless, Seamless Display, and KVM connections set up to Secondary PCs. Secondary PCs can accept these connections from Primary PCs.
Primary: Seamless: You can see the Secondary PC (on the same desk) and move your Primary's mouse to its monitors and interact with its desktop and apps as well as copy \ paste files and text between the PCs. You cannot, however, move app windows open on each respective PC to the other.
KVM: A remote connection to the Secondary, much like RDP (Remote Desktop).
Seamless Display: When you make said connection, the monitors of the Secondary become actual usable additional monitors to the Primary. Unlike a normal Seamless connection, you can move app windows to them.
WIth that, the Secondary is fairly 'dumb', it accepts connections from the Primary and provides the services for the aforementioned connection types. It can also only accept 1 connection type at a time. For example, if you have a seamless connection setup and working, inittiate a KVM connection to it, the Seamless connection will be disabled. Likewise, you would not KVM to a Secondary PC that you already have an active Seamless Display connection to (that might rip a hole in spacetime as I think about it )
It might be helpful to focus on 1 connection type, KVM if a remote connection is what you are primarily seeking. If you create one with the proper credentials on both sides, is it successful?
