Sorry you ran into problems. I'm not Support, just a fellow member.
Please run winver and tell us what version you're on. There are a few things you can try until Support sees your post but remember, this is info from the net, not an official Stardock Support solution:
1. Restart Windows Explorer or Start Menu Experience Host: Try restarting these services to see if it resolves the issue.
2. Clear Icon Cache: Run a batch script or use a third-party tool to clear the icon cache and see if it restores the missing icons. I'd suggest running DesktopCmd.exe first as it's free.
3. Disable Windows Tablet Mode: If enabled, disable tablet mode and see if it resolves the issue.
4. Check for Corrupted System Files: Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to detect and repair corrupted system files, which may be contributing to the issue. From an elevated command prompt run: sfc /scannow
5. Restoring Windows icons: To restore Windows icons, you can follow these steps:
- Windows 11:
- Click Start, then Settings, and select Personalization.
- Click on Themes, then scroll down to Desktop icon settings.
- Select the system icons you want to show on the desktop (e.g., This PC, User Files, Network, Recycle Bin, and Control Panel) and click OK.
- Windows 10:
- Right-click an empty space on the desktop, hover over “View”, and click “Show desktop icons”.
- Alternatively, you can also use the Taskbar and Navigation Properties window:
- Right-click on the Taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
- Click on the “Navigation” tab and check the box next to “Show desktop icons”.
-
- Please report back.
