I feel like Chicken Lilttle...

All of the patches MSN offers... I get used to them. So now there is a new warning... ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4233357/ ).

So is it that bad, in your opinion?

I feel so saturated with critical patches... do you think it will ever stop?

...let me know when you're back up....think it might be ZA not playing nice with the patch.

The error is described as an 'internet error'

Also, I use XP and have a total of 3 users on this machine, so I go through the regular multi-user sign on screen.

za is showing that the jewel case creator was allowed to access the internet

Do two things:

In ZA config, go to Privacy and clean out cache files, then go to the site list in the privacy section, right click on the site and select options, then you can customize the site thru that window. It probalby has something to do with third party cookies or the private header information.

Hmmm...and here our conversation will probably end. I have the freebie ZA version. I've got a DSL router with NAT enabled, so I don't really think I need to spend the $$ for the full version. I use ZA just to block/allow stuff leaving my machine.

It's been so long since I played with the free version ...you should be able to put that site in the trusted zone. Since you have Nat, disable ZA long enough to see if it works.

I went over some past tech mag articles and found this:

http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1107_2-5154501.html

hmmm, should have paid attention then. Live and learn, hindsight is 20/20, yada yada yada, etc

You have a problem...it's a spoof. ZDNet.com.com (Check the properties in the link)

hmmm I went back and looked at all my previous editions and all their hot links are like that. I've been getting this emag for years.

ct.com.com/click?q=fc-WpomQVwl4uiWGxel5AU9A6Ma5dRR

I deleted the http prefix so it wouldn't show up as a link

That is typical of their links.

I take that back...I think they have a problem. It comes up unavailable and then on a re-fresh it's off to another site.........I'll have to do a trace and see if it's actually going to a re-direct on their site (which is fine), but Mcafee is going nuts when it does it....will let you know.

There all on their site and yeah, I've used them for years too...never noticed the com.com before, but it surprises me they didn't change their addy's since that's how the spoofs work. Both McAfee and ZAP killed the link. Guess those proggies are a little over zealous, but at least I know they work

BTW: where are we with your problem?

problem still exists. The jewel case creator I'm using is from EZCD-Creator, which I've had for years. Never had a problem. The lookup won't work in the main app either.

MMJB had no problem ID-ing the CD.

Who knows...as I said before, it's possible the CDDB site which the jewel case creator program uses is down atm.

Do you have the link and post it....?

BTW: what version you using?

Phhht, opened the main EZCD app and the correct information was showing in all the panels. Clicked on the internet lookup and got the error. Couldn't find out where it was going, so I have no link to give you. Somehow it was able to figure out what was on the CD though. Don't know how.

... know the feeling....if it's the Roxio softwre http://www.roxio.com/en/support/software_updates.jhtml (verus OEM) they have very recent updates on their site. Might want to take a look...

it's the oem stuff upgraded as far as they went with it.

I thought I'd be sneaky and look at the ZA log of when it tried to connect. Put the ip in Arin's Whois and it just showed my ISP's ip range.

ok well there 'ya go. Just used the Jewel Case Creator, clicked on contents and worked perfectly. I just want to bang my head on the wall.

eh... MS pacthes have always seemed to slip out that fixed one thing and broken a number of things...

but...

simple rule of thumb...

MS announces a patch, wait, one week if not two and see...

Besides the fact if it breaks soemthing... in that time people will have the info n how to fix what it broke by then...

and MS might even have a patch for the patch of the patch they had you patch ready to download.

lol
