Multiplicity 4 Beta 3 Changelog (Released 10/31/2024)

10/31/2024

IMPORTANT: When updating, all PCs that you have Multiplicity installed on need to run the new installer.

Version

  • UI: Multiplicity Beta 3

  • MultiplicityConfig.exe: 4.0.0.2

Platforms

  • Stardock only

Changes

  • A small change was needed to fix an issue with the PC Name lookup on adding new machines to networks that do not report valid responses to ‘nslookup’.  Will fall back to the old method in that situation.

  • Added an option to control if the mouse cursor can hide in KVM mode or not

  • Ensures the scroll lock option in KVM mode shows the cursor again if the other end is running a game

  • While Beta 2 fixed the number of Seamless connections allowed on the Multiplicity (Base version) grid, it would only ever connect to 1.  Beta 3 resolves this issue

  • Fixes an issue with drag-and-drop file copies

  • Tweaked unload to close down seamless display connections on the Primary too.

  • New config improving the speed of the ‘Add computer' scanning window

  • Resolved 32-bit machine / older 64-bit not being able to save settings

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • With a Secondary placed below or above Primary monitors but offset to the right or left of the center of them like so

The transition will happen but the cursor will appear in an unexpected top left \ top right (depending on grid placement) of the Secondary.  The same is true for traversing the cursor back to the Primary. It is being looked at.

  • Using the 'Ctrl' key to broadcast keystrokes from the Primary to all Secondary PCs...

...is not functioning in the Pro version, it is working as expected in the base version of Multiplicity 4.  A fix will be included in the next release.

Installed Beta 3 on all machines. Broadcast key is broken and does not work. Worked fine in Beta 2 and was used extensively. Everything else appears to work fine. The broadcast key does not trigger the audio to indicate it is broadcasting. Nothing happens when left control is hit 3 times in rapid succession.

Tried toggling the key broadcast on and off.
Tried Restarting Multiplicity processes.
Tried rebooting.

Seamless connections is broken with the secondaries. They show as tiny boxes and you can't make the text out. Additionally, they don't see to honor their position. For example, the middle secondary "KPA" when mousing up from that one, it is taking the mouse cursor all the way to the far right of display 2 above it. It should be going to the far left.

'Broken' generally means 'they don't work at all'... Do you mean to say 'they work but there are issues' ?

This should have been the 'known issue' (it is now) as it was identified shortly before release but we were too far along in the push for a build that had many greater fixes.

The Secondaries in that view represent their resolution compared to the other monitors; your resolution for those Secondaries must be considerably smaller than those of the Primary.  Perhaps an 'on-hover' larger description is appropriate there.

Thanks for the feedback.

So far speed and connection via KVM seems to have improved for me on this build. I am no longer having random disconnects when transferring big files today. I will report if that changes.

Does broadcast work with Beta 3 for you? It is not for me. I reverted to Beta 1 and it's working again. Didn't save the Beta 2 installer so unfortunately, I am stuck with Beta 1 for now.

Correct. It's not really usable in its current form as a daily driver.

It is showing my single monitor as a dual monitor, which I think might be some of the problem. I have an ultrawide with two inputs into the computer. It needs the ability to merge the primary ultrawide into a single display.

This reads like vendor software is installed to make the monitor(s) look and act like 1. I would be shocked if Windows Display did not see it as 2 monitors.

That said, I am not sure this causes us \ MP any real problems here Neil as he can never move them, the dual-displays would have to be locked in their horizontal positions.

We have reproduced the issue internally and a fix will be included in the next release.

Note: This is only an issue on Multiplicity Pro, Multiplicity (the base version) it will work as expected.

SAMSUNG 49" Odyssey Neo G9 Series G95NA 4K UHD Curved Gaming Monitor

It does show as two displays in the Display control pane. I changed the setting there to "Show only on 1" and it disables the second display and Multiplicity picks it up as one monitor now.

The mouse cursor/movement now works as expected. Only the display of the monitor name on the config screen is an issue now. Recommend just scaling the font down on the computer name so it fits within the bubbles.

Thanks! While you're in there, would love to see that key combo and number of repetitions to be configurable. When using the "CTRL + CTRL + CTRL" when gaming, it's a lot of bumping and spamming the keys and is prone to user error.

Are we still waiting for an update to activate Multiplicity Pro for us recent KVM purchasers? While I did receive the e-mail saying I have been upgraded to Multiplicity 4, it appears that the pro features are still not enabled. I purchased KVM at the beginning of October, so according to the documentation, I should qualify for the Pro license.

The wrong product was applied to your account during the process.  I have manually fixed it.  You can get the MP4 Pro key from your account

Sorry for the confusion.

Remember, you need to install MP4 on each of the PCs you had MP3 on.

I have a couple of feature requests that go with my experience with of Multiplicity 4 beta.

1. Ability to drag and drop in KVM mode between two different computers.

Currently I am able to use Fences peak or Groupy saved folder positioning to line up open folders side by side between two different computers very easily which is nice. But to copy files between two pc's in KVM mode I have to still use copy paste. Drag and drop would save me time.

2. While in KVM mode. Have the ability to use shortcut keys to quickly toggle on and off Full screen mode

Hello,

First, thank you for the M4 Beta 3 release.   Now, onto my issue;

Either the drag and drop files feature isn't working for me, or I simply have no idea how to use it.  Perhaps, someone could clarify this for me?

I use M4 in KVM mode to connect to my son's computers while they homeschool to perform various tasks.  On occasion I need to transfer files (usually PDFs,  Word or text files) from my computer (Primary) to theirs (secondary).  I usually do this by selecting the file and pressing CTRL+C (copy) on my computer (primary) then go to their desktop in the secondary window and pasting (CTRL+V).  However, if I grab the file off my desktop and attempt to drop it onto their (inside the secondary window) all I get is a circle with a slash through it for a mouse cursor, meaning I can't perform this action.

Is there some reason I am unable to to drag & drop between my desktop (primary computer) to a secondary window displaying their desktop?

Thank you very much for your time and efforts.

Sincerely,

Ivan Thomson

Drag and drop only works for Seamless connections, not for KVM.  Please use copy \ paste as you detailed in your post.

KVM seams to lockup or lag when using the KVM's side bar. Goes back to normal once you close the side bar.
