Thanks carolelee I am a member of the Cats Protaction Legue here where I live...I just transport them, and occationally catch them...They get full vets treatment and neutered or spayed.

My post is beacuse I`ve never had a Ferral one to keep at home myself...During th xmas holidays the centre was full so even us helpers were recruited to help and any new cats caught like Joey had to be farmed out...I caught him so I home him type deal..

This xmas people were turning up at the centre (I have been told) and giving family pets away cause they were moving into a flats or some other excuse which has caused myhem....Sometimes they are left at the doorway in a box and people drive off leaving them...Its so awful...

And to dear Tech Cat I feel for you and your Cat....They do not last as long as us humans but if you have given (as I`m sure you have ) a wonderful life thats about all we can do....

Love those Cats...

He does the jump and attack thing too....

Don't worry about that, almost every cat does that at a certain age (usually during their teenage years..) it will stop all by itself.

One of my two cats at home was a malnourished, ferral stray when I found him, and whenever I fed him he behaved like a madman (growled and hissed, and he would jump right in the middle of his food). It took him almost two years before he realised that he would get another meal and that there was no need to panic about not getting enough food, but he has become the most fussy cat you can imagine (he is 12 now).
Just don't give up on Joey. It might take some time, but he will eventually become your best friend...

Tech Cat, my kitty Flossie sends all her best wishes and love to your kitty. Please let us know how she's doing, okay?

I really wish more people would have their pets spayed or neutered, because I hate seeing so many strays and homeless pets up for adoptions at shelters. It's gotten to the point that I can walk into Petsmart only when I absolutely have to, because I inevitably end up going over to see the kitties up for adoption, and I want to take them all home.

I also wish people would NOT give live animals as gifts, whether it be kittens or puppies at Christmas, rabbits at Easter, or whatnot. The number of animal "gifts" that end up being dumped at the side of the road or dropped off at shelters is staggering. It's so thoughtless and unkind.

I once had an African Jungle Cat, stood 18 inches high, someone decided to enter my home through the window, Tarot ripped into him and scratched him to pieces

Thanks everyone and aufisch Joey`s doing fine...He is getting used to his new home and has some quirky (too say the least) habbits, at least he uses the litter tray.

These people who abandon animals should not be allowd another, but what can you do ?

I have always wondered if spaying and neutering an animal is cruel although it does help prevent over population of stray animals. I just think about how I wouldn't like to get neutered myself and wonder if it is cruel.

BTW, I'll report on my cat's condition. Right now she seems to be improving after being put back on antibiotics, but I hope that she gets better completely instead of appearing to be better then getting sick again.

I`ve got to get neutered at least once, it would be so cruel to to see me in my old age chasing younger women....Like all those stray cats...

The vets tell us it won`t hurt a bit, but I`m not so sure after seeing them come back with bits missing...Still it does keep the population down...Hey mybe neutering is not such a bad idea after all, it would stop mankind from overpopulation, starvation and clam him down a bit...
