The issues I reported on Start11v2 version 2.07's thread here are still present in version 2.08, for the most part (read on for details)
Exact Windows Version: Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.3155)
Start11 Version: 2.07 (now 2.08 for this thread)
Problem/Steps to reproduce: Pin certain items to Start11 via the context menu and then try to click those apps from Start 11. They won't open.
Apps affected:
- OBS Studio (3rd party)
- Snipping Tool (built-in Windows utility)
- "Classic" Teams (Microsoft app)
- OBS Studio issue:
When I pin OBS Studio (shortcut or the executable) to Start11, I see this message:
followed by this message:
This worked fine in Windows 10 and Start10.
- Snipping Tool issue:
When I pin Windows' Snipping Tool utility to Start 11, the first problem is that the icon is not correct; it shows the generic Windows 11 folder icon instead:
This worked fine in Windows 10 and Start10 for Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch.
- Classic Teams issue:
When I pin Microsoft Teams classic to Start11, and then click on it, it loads this command line window, which then closes (and nothing else happens):
Teams classic worked fine in Windows 10 and Start10.
---
Given that this issue occurs for multiple apps, but not all of them (and across a variety of apps, such as built-in Windows features, 3rd party apps, and 2nd party/Microsoft apps), it seems like a change in the way Start11 handles calling/loading these applications rather than issues with the specific applications or with Windows 11.
The user who replied and suggested my installation was corrupt was wrong, as I suspected; uninstalling completely, restarting, and reinstalling did not resolve the issue.
That being said, OBS Studio now opens correctly since I've updated to v2.08. Teams classic and Snipping Tool are still broken when added to the Start11 menu and opened from there, unfortunately. And, for further troubleshooting purposes, I have Start11 set to display in Windows 7 style.
