Eliminate Duplicate Duplicate Results Results

Eliminate Eliminate

If I search for files, I get duplicate results. Here is a screenshot where I search for "VINs".  Turns out I have a *.TXT file which matches that name, and it includes a list of vehicle ID numbers for cars I own.

The first results is to "%UserProfile%\OneDrive\Documents\My Scans\Cars\VINs.txt" which is great, that's what I expect.

The next result is to "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\VINs.txt.lnk" which is annoying. I don't want to search recent links shortcuts. How can I turn that off? I already have "%UserProfile%\AppData" excluded from search in Windows, so I'm surprised it's here. Does that not exclude all subdirectories?

The next result is the same as the first. Why is it hit on both "Files" and "Documents"? What's the difference between a "file" and a "document"?

(I'm using Star 11 vesion 2.07, if it matters. On Windowss 11.)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I believe this is normal since you have same files on multiple location. Not sure if you can setup how the search result could be cut down to specific folders only. I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Then, maybe you can explain why duplicate results are a feature? Why is this showing the same file twice the right answer? What is the difference between "documents" and "files"?

Files are things located everywhere in the file system.

Documents are things located in the Documents folder.

So it's expected that there are duplicate results across these two categories? How is that useful?

My mikeblas,

I've had the chance to look into this and note what's happening here.  It has been logged internally.

After a couple of months, I haven't received any information about this issue. Is it being ignored?
