Regarding screen captures

I have a question, and if you refer to my profile desktop image, which I just changed so you can know the specific objects I'm talking about.......

When I use the Capture docklet, it takes a beautiful image of my desktop. But, I cannot image the open start bar at the same time. So, I posted that issue, in which a program called Gadwin PrintScreen 2.6 would help. Well, it helps capture the open start bar, which is what I wanted, but I lose other stuff. So, here's my question:

Why is it that Gadwin will not capture the ObjectDock bar at all, ever, or the weather DX object? Yet, it does capture the DX clock. Also, using that program, my cursor is reduced to a boring arrow, rather than the Cappuccino cursor that I am actually using. Very strange. Any ideas? Are these but mere ghosts in our machines, having no reflections, as if ghosts in a mirror?

Why not hit PrtScn and paste the result into a graphics program ? Never understood what people need screen capture programs for.

I can't answer your question, all I can say is I just use the old fashion Print Screen and it captures everything.

All I do is open the start menu (if you want that captured), then press the "Print Screen" button on my keyboard. Then paste the captured image into a graphics program. It get's all of the items that you refer to.

Seems to work for me.

Guess I wasn't fast enough with my answer, but it looks like we all came up with the same thing.

If you have a Paint Shop program, just hit alt+Print Screen with the start bar open ....
...open paint shop pro (or what ever) press new, then ctrl+v....

Works great...check my current desktop...

just hit alt+Print Screen with the start bar open

alt+Print Screen is for capturing 1 window. Print Screen with out the alt is for the entire desktop.

By the way, if you open the start bar, then press the alt key, the start bar will close.

ok, sorry....I wasn't aware that you did not have to hold the alt button, thank you....
....but I still caught the image with the start button open so

Now this is gonna sound like yet another realllllly dumb question, but I gotta ask cuz I give up trying to find it.......
When I hit the printscreen key, where does the file go? How do you know it has even done anything? I guess once I know where the file goes, then I can know if it worked. DOH

It's in memory. Just open any graphics program, even paint, and choose paste. You will see your image. Then save your file to the location of your choice.

fyi - You can also paste those screen captures directly into MS Office applications as well as Outlook Express and many other programs.
This has proven quite handy to me in the past when developing various "How to" guides etc...
