Fences 5 - Missing icons and forgetting fence locations

I am running on Windows 11 and started having some issues in the past few days.

1. Not all icons display

This could be a Windows 11 issue, but basically when I created a new fence with some applications a few days ago, initially everything looked good until suddenly all my fences disappeared. Initially, I thought I made accidentally done a double click, but that wasn't the case. After another reboot, all my old fences returned, but the new one remained gone. That said, I can see all my new application icons in the Windows desktop directory. Very strange!

2. Fences move from screen to screen and fence positions change after rebooting

Sometimes (it doesn't always happen). a fence might move from one screen to another after a reboot. In addition, newer fences might change their position on a screen.

I understand that the first issue might be a Windows specific problem...

Any feedback is appreciated!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. That most probably due to Fences desktop pages. Try disable Fences desktop pages and see if everything return to main desktop. And later, if you wish, you can turn it on and learn how to navigate and manage it. Refer screenshot below.

Note: If you on Fences 5, "Desktop Pages" was rename to "Pages"

Thanks

Hi Basj,

Thank you for your response. Disabling "Pages" brought back a fence that disappeared earlier today when I moved it from one monitor to another. Initially, all fences disappeared, but after another reboot I was down to one that came back with disabling "Pages".

However, I came across two new issues.

1. Whenever I reboot, all fences from my second monitor move to my first monitor.

2. The transparency setting only works in Chameleon mode. As soon as I click on the desktop, all fences become solid (non transparent).

Anyhow, thank you for bringing missing fence and icons back!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Issue 1. How do you connect the second monitor? Is it permanent connection, HDMI, DVI or USB type connection. Plug in or docking type?

Issue 2. Have you tried this setting.

Thanks

The setting order is different on my machine, but I have currently both "Show..." options activated.

The second monitor is a permanent connection and both monitors are using display port cables.

I think the transparency is working after another reboot, but every reboot moves all fences from monitor 2 to monitor 1. That issue is really bothersome since it takes time on every reboot. The transparency is mostly working and it is such a small issue that it doesn't really bother me.

Thank you for your response!

Try this. Once your get all your layout as what you wanted. Saved a layout snapshots. (Snapshots->Press "Take snapshot" button) save it under unique name.

Turn off this setting.

Reboot your system. If the fences still moved. Go to the snapshots you just saved. Restore it and see if that return all fences back to your desired location. Try that and report back.

I am sorry about the late reply, but I have been busy with work.

I have taken a snapshot as instructed, but the setting you wanted me to turn off, was already off. I can now manually restore the saved snapshot, but the problem is still the same. It doesn't restore it on its own. I am also aware that updating a graphics driver or adding/removing a monitor can negatively impact the process.

I mean it normally works on reboot, but it does sometimes fail when I turn on the PC. It is typically off at night times.

The new version kept working until today when I updated my NVIDIA driver and all icons and fences from the second monitor simply disappeared.

End of Holoblade's quote

Would appreciate if you report your issue on the Alpha thread so Support and Dev could review it and respond to it. They might need to get more information from you.
