Fences 5 Icon Spacing

Icons Spacing Differes From Windows

Icon spacing inside fences is tighter/closer vertically than Windows Desktop icons. Is there a way to alter spacing of icons within fences? If not, there should be, especially given the large number of posts in this forum regrading similar issues.

Thanks!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I don't see the difference on my system.

Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows 10/11 full version number. Use Winver.exe.
  2. Fences version.
  3. Portal Fences View setting.
  4. Display scale setting (100%,125%, 300% etc)
  5. Screenshots

Thanks

Thanks Basj,

  1. Windows 11 Pro23H2 22631.3155
  2. Fences 5.04
  3. I don't have any folder portals, if that's what you're asking
  4. Display scale 150% (as per manufacturer's recommendation)

sdrohan,

Thanks, but doesn't that change the Windows' Desktop icon spacing? I want to keep Window's native desktop icon spacing and have Fences icons spaced the same. Is that possible?

Thanks!

It should affect both.  Just back up your registry (or just that key to save time) so you can re-import it should you not like the results.

Didn't work. I tried changing, just a bit, both vertical & horizontal spacing just to see if that made a diff. No change on the Fences side that I could tell.

Hi mu4,

The horizontal spacing – if you move them to two rows. Does this show the issue as well? Possible to show what that looks like?

The spacing follows default Windows metrics – including inner-Fence spacing which for many years has followed Explorer's guidance on the spacing of sub-items (system-wide). But we are considering offering more options around that in the future.

Hi Dr W,

Thanks for the reply. I tried two rows of icons in a fence and spacing is still different (vertically) from non-fenced icons on my desktop. For some reason, Fences is selecting its own, or different spacing than native desktop icons. I tried changed the recommended Windows' Scale setting (150%) and that didn't alter the diff is spacing.

Problem persists. Looking like there isn't a solution to this. Thanks all for trying!

Do you still see it with this version installed?
